Didn't want him sacked a fortnight ago, I sure as hell don't want him sacked now. I think it'll worsen the image of the club (if possible) if Pagan is sacked after his job was confirmed.

I put this thread up because I can't belive Rob Butters sacked Grant Thomas with a much better record than Dean Laidley and Denis Pagan that's all

The problem is it's comparing apples with oranges Pagan has had the worst list in the AFL for a number of years now and we have only just been able to participate properly in the draft to improve our list. The reign of Pagan shouldn't even be judged on his first couple of years as he had little hope of bringing quality to the club, because we cheated to come last and were rightly if harshly punished Short sighted top ups instead of investing in youth had Pagan taking over an old list lacking quality.

Thomas took over a list that still had some quality core players with a number of big name recruits that also had some quality draftees after finishing last the season before. Two seasons finishing second last then added more young quality. Carlton is still a season away from even being in the same situation listwise that Thomas found himself in after two years in charge. Thomas had a great list, but even with injuries they underperformed. Other teams were able to work out alternative plans to cope with injuries. Thomas couldn't. Thomas changed the culture at the club to a winning one whereby to their credit where they finished wasn't good enough. In a few years time Carlton's list will be full of quality then our coach can be judged fairly I can see the poor bloke getting the chop at the end of his contract and the next bloke getting a quality list to develop with Pagan being judged a failure
