To be hosted in between One Day World Cups (like Winter Olympics is to Summer Olympics) and played over an 8 week period.

My Proposal would be have two groups of 5 player a round robin against each other over five weeks

week 1 - Round 1
week 2 - Round 2
week 3 - rest week
week 4 - Round 3
week 5 - Round 4

The top team from each group would play second from the other group with the winners advancing to the final

week 6 - Semi Finals
week 7 - rest week
week 8 - Final
(There could even be a rest week between the Round Robin and Semi's even if it would add an extra week to the schedule)

The major problem with the ICC has been the time factor, but considering this would take up approximately the same amount of time (maybe a fraction more) than the One Day WC it seems a highly flawed excuse.

I see no reason why this could not be implemented

I can't see it ever working, too many variables at work in a one off Test, plus you have different teams at different stages of their seasons. Some may have been playing while others haven't even started theirs.

I think the set-up of a rolling championship and 3 test series will eventually prove to be the best system. Although I hope they never cut the Ashes series to 3 tests. Sooner or later, England will rise and the Aussies won't be as strong and it will be more of a contest again.

I'm with the Hippie here, there are too many variables involved plus it depends where you play it, if it's anywhere in Asia then India would have a chance if it was anywhere else then India would have no chance for example.Plus what happens with draws-I mean do you play the game again or what?I'm pretty happy with the rolling championship i think it's the best they could have done in the circumstances.

Well done Hippie on saying that you don't want the Ashes to got to 3 games, I feel pretty strongly about that but it's not really our call as we're the ones getting thrashed every time.
Although if we think that given time we'll get strong & your lot will weaken we're in for a long wait-the only way we're gonna win back the Ashes is to go out there & improve every facet of our cricket infrastructure not just that usual gutless argument that it's just a cyclical thing that Australia are strong at the moment & it'll be our turn soon.

Well, Dip, if Rod Marsh has the same success with the cricket academy as he had here, it mightn't be as long as you think. Providing everybody listens to him and doesn't get in a huff if they get critisised occasionally.

Yeah I'm pretty hopefully that he'll be able to turn out a few players good enough to have decent Test careers-but you're right to make the pooint about players getting in a huff as the young players in England seem to think they're stars before they've ever done anything.
You're coach Buchanan wrote an article in one of our newspapers at the weekend criticising some of the things that go on in English cricket & one of his points was that an England player turned up for his Test debut at Egbaston driving a sports car, with his sunglasses on & a mobile phone clamped to his ear-his point was that the bloke obviously thought he'd arrived but in reality he'd never done anything.Well only one guy made his debut at Egbaston & that was Usman Affzal-this is the same bloke who celebrated as if he'd broken Brian Lara's world record when he made his half century at the Oval-he was then caught hooking 4 runs later! The sooner Rod knocks a few of these twits done a peg or two the better for everyone.
