Ottens is looking good to make the drive down to Geelong, if we can scrape together a good enough deal (Thompson reckons 1st rounder + decent player). But if we grab Simmonds as well, I thought that we could send Ben Graham back to defence, seeing that we struggled to cover the Lion's talls in the Prelim. Mooney struggled on Bradshaw.

Foward Line:
HF: Ablett Ottens S. Johnson
F: Chapman Simmonds Kingsley

King alternates with Simmonds and Ottens in ruck.
Problem may be Simmonds not quite suited to specialist foward position.
Just a thought, wanted your reaction.

Nice idea, but if you are using it as an idea to bolster our back half it may be better to keep Graham at CHF and look for a CHB. Maybe Prestigiacomo Saddington or McGuire, although I dont think Thompson will like this as it will erode into our midfield depth given the fact well have to swap pick(s) and player for Ottens. And I dont know if Simmonds would be a better option at CHF to Graham, plus it also doesnt give Mackie, Playfair, Gardiner or Lonergan as much oppurtunity to develop.

Simmonds is a bit like Ottens (no where near as good). We'd have three, or 4 if you count Mooney, ruckman on the field at the one time and that's probably to many.

I'd look at maybe getting another tall down back if we could afford it. Maybe somebody like Bolton, Mundy or Saddington. Just to provide an extra bit of cover. I liked Dasher as a midfielder the more the year went on. We might not be able to afford them if they wanted any more than about 250K. KK's contract is up and must surely come down and I've heard both Spriggs and Rahilly were on 200+ this year

What other type of players do you think we need apart from Ottens. I've heard names like Brett Burton, Ian Perrie, Ben Dixon and Robertson being thrown around. How about an extra midfielder like Dew, Bode, Gilbee, Tivendale or Morrison

Just think that we need one extra tall in defence. Rooke can do it, but I'd prefer to bring someone else in. Maybe in the draft. I'm not sure what Mooney's role will be exactly next year. I don't think he's suited to the backline.

None would get a game at Geelong.

Stick to Ottens

then trade some of our developing KPP players that bomber believes wont make it + draft picks for higher draft picks and get some more kids from the draft

Bode's a handy player and Dew just played in a premiership side. Burton is an interesting one. He was a gun in 2003 but struggled this year. I reckon there could be some value there.

I'm unsure on Bode. Going back a couple of years he looked like a promising player. Perhaps playing in a midfield with K. Johnson, Ricciuto, McLeod and Bickley around him made him better than he looked. He has certainly gone backwards and would be worth a look for a team needing midfielders.

We don't really have any other glaring holes apart from a KF so these players are more to add depth to our list. I mean we had a great year so in Economic terms our 'stocks' are at a high. We should maybe look at trading in for some 'stocks' while they are low. If we could land a Burton for somebody like Spriggs or Rahilly then I reckon we would come out on top

PS I think Bolton and Saddington would get a game for us as well Phat. Not sure if we could afford them both money wise and trade wise but it would certanly provide us some insurance down back. They are also both young which fits into our youth policy.

I'd like to think our midfielders are better than Greg Tivendale.

Robbo for a nice price could be a good get, but he's not a Geelong-type boy.

i was thinking along the same lines as u zany except i had thompson or whitnall at full forward instead of simmonds.

One or the other. You can only play one forward/ruckman in the forward line at once. Freo tried it with Simmonds and J Longmuir. It does not work.
But I do believe we need 2 new forwards remembering Kingsley, Haynes, Gardiner, Playfair & McCarthy are no good. I don't think they will improve much on this years efforts.
Go for Ottens for 1st Draft Choice, David Spriggs & Charlie Gardiner
Brett Burton for Kent Kingsley & Henry Playfair
Lance Whitnall for David Haynes & Mathew McCarthy
Three quality players for five hacks

I think if we are goona get Brad its drag out for a while cause Richmond wont lose him lightly Greg Miller will play hardball no doubt. I think if we were to get him it would be great cause our small forwards would be even better than this year. The way we play would suit Ottens as well. Maybe to get Brad there will have to be a three or four way deal. This sounds crazy but how bout Geelong looked at trading Kingsley. I know he was pretty good this year but there are other guys there who can can take his spot For Example Haynes, Gardiner, Mackie Playfair etc

Like the sound of this, except I'd keep Kingsley instead of trading for Whitnall. Use combination Playfair and Haynes for Burton instead (although I doubt it would be accepted).
