Should we tank next year?

parrot - The answer to your question about whether you tanked or not is;

Your intentions were to tank but were that crap that you didn't need to tank.

We either tanked or we didn’t. Oh well, if you don’t want to answer the question I will. The Blues tanked only the following late season games..

1. Collingwood (Obvious factor 9.7/10)
2. Essendon (Obvious Factor 9.5/10)
3. Dees (Obvious Factor 9/10)
4. Saints (Obvious Factor 8/10)
5. Port (Obvious Factor 7/10)

Hate losing ANY game, even five pointless late-season ones, but the reward of getting Judd and Kruezer was just massive, and will set us up nicely over the next 5 years or so. Saying you want to tank a whole season is just silly IMO. But if the Tiges find themselves 16th at Round 18, with one win away from losing a PP, I’d suspect you wouldn’t be trying too hard to win, as would any team in that situation. :)

Say we get off to a 3-6 start. Should we tank and get the #1 pick.

I say yes.

What an idioitic thing to suggest!?!?? The season hasn't even started, teams don't "tank" for starters. Selections may be made at the selection table that don't put the best team out on the park but to suggest that teams tank is pure fallacy

I don't think the pre-game meetings would have had Pagan telling his blokes to hold back and let their opponent win, that would be devastating to team moral. But coaching panels would make behind the scenes decisions to select a team to create poor match-ups or bring a player off who's performing too well for a "rest" etc. The latter was pretty obvious last year. It gets around in the media, the players hear calls of tanking and doubts start to creep in - am I being played because I've earned it or so my opponent can have a day out etc., it all leads to a losing culture.

The sad part about Carlton tanking in those 5 games is that they would have lost them even without tanking.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't we play the Eagles in Perth in jimi and sheeds' send off game and almost pull off one of the greatest vistories in the history of the Essendon Football club?

And got beaten easily on the G in front of all your Melbourne supporters.

You are right that we did't send them off with a win but im sure we got more than pretty close and i'm also sure it wasn't a humiliation as you suggested.

The humiliation occurred in Melbourne at the farewell for the benefit of your Melbourne fan base, as you well know.

what does that say about you if we beat you and we finished higher than you this year. funny

Injuries to our star players, Coughlin, Brown, Simmonds if it were Carlton losing similar players odds on they would not win one single game in 2007.

They would be remembered for what they did against West Coast in Perth not for beating a mediocre team in Melbourne.

That mediocre team spanked you old timers.

Everytime you open your trap and have a dig at the Tigers, you screw yourself over again. Come back when the Bummers beat us. :thumbsu:

If any tiger supporter wants to tank and throw a game of footy you should go hide under a rock for the rest of your life.
I would be horrified if i found out we did that. I would rather finish 9th again than tank the season, lose more pride and respect and finish last.

I hearby request that Weaver, Peejay and co. red card anybody immediately that ever suggests such a terrible thing and delete the thread.
That stuff might be allowed at Carltank/Tankton, but it is forbidden at Tigerland!

I'm just saying if we're in the position to finish last and get the priorities towards the end of the season we should tank and get the picks.

Teams have exploited it in the past and the AFL has done nothing, so there's no shame in using it.

NO SHAME? No Shame? Are you being serious?
Mate .. the game is about winning, not about having the best team. We aren't going to get anywhere throwing games, look at Carlton. They've had the last fourty-seven #1 picks and what have they achieved. SQUAT!
If you're gonna start with that attitude, don't bother supporting the team at all.

for this thread to still be open on your forum really says something about the differing cultures of different teams.. for some reason there is an assumption that 'tanking' as you victorians call it, is the pathway to success, teams that do this really need to wake up and realise that there are alot better ways to getting to the top.. i.e employing premium player scouts and having top notch player development programs.. tanking is for losers

If you actually read the posts from the Richmond supporters you will find that we agree with you.

The reason why this thread is still open is because all of our supporters are just displaying our disgust at the notion of tanking. About the only supporters who think that it is acceptable to tank are the few Carlton supporters who posted at the start of the thread (why am I not suprised.).
