Speaking to two of my dads best mates who are ex sydney and carlton players they are under the impression Sydney is a top 8 side. I myself believe Malthouse, Craig and Roos are the best coaches in the afl. Paul Roos is if im not mistaken finishes this year in the event Longmire takes over and without this turning into a bag ratten topic could we approach him.

Brett Ratten is a young devleoping coach but as a senior coach he lacks the depth in detail and tatical planning bringing Paul Roos in as Senior Coach or maybe assistant coach could dramatically impact upon the team and on Ratten.

Paul Roos is a mastermind and is one of the few great coaches in the game, and i dont throw away the term often. THese ex players are under the impression that carlton should defientley be looking into this as we are going to have on of the best midfields this game as ever seen and we should utilise this as best we can.

Should We?

bit early in the year, wait awhile before we knife ratten. there was talk before the year about gameplan and what needed to change, and ratten was attempting to vary the tempo as well as tighten things up in the midfield when the opposition (feels like this has been a problem for a decade) has it if i remember rightly..

ratten has his detractors but is improving, i think. i have had my doubts but for example, vs bris putting simpson forward was a nice move and paid off.

So being the first coach in nearly a decade to take the team to a finals isn't worthy of being retained even during the next year?

The logic behind those sentiments is asinine.

Ahk, im just going off word iv heard within the walls as alot of what bigfooty talks about is exterior and what they hear off the media and hearsay

Ratten is developing just like the team but in the box i think we lack experience even though Monty is very just this, carlton are defiently looking for a past coach and trust me on that

this is coming from people within the walls of both sydney and carlton

Simple equation for me

- Make finals stay
- Miss finals off with his head

Sort of like what Port Adelaide have done with Laidley...Yeh why not.

I think Ratts prep is good but match day tactics sometimes drops away, like someone else said he is improving like the team...we need to make the most of this A+ talent we have particularily in the middle.I believe we we should not go backwards this year, not expecting top 4 but status quo, 7th or 8th. Otherwise it;s not good enough, forget about the tough draw etc, you simply have beat other teams, WIN

Malthouse, Matthews, Roos etc.
Who really knows?

It's all dependent on things that have not happened yet, but I'd expect the club to keep their ear to the ground and ready to act on anything that will better our situation in all facets of the footballing department.

We've shown our teeth already and I wouldn't expect anything less from here on in.

No way would I be changing coaches - Ratts has taken a young list from the laughing stock of the AFL to playing finals last year, seems a few people have a problem with that

Yes, Roos is the best coach in the AFL, has taken the Swans to their first flag in years and has somehow managed to successfully re-development a different list, with youth, in a short time.

Craig inherited a very good team with a very good list which is still there. He hasn't taken them that next step. Not saying he's a bad coach by any stretch of the imagine, but it should be put in some perspective. The year before he became coach the Crows didn't make the 8, but in the 3 or 4 preceding years they did and Craig has worked with an experienced list.

If you change coaches now, you change game plan which takes time and may well mean going backwards. I wouldn't even consider changing coaches till the end of next year.

I'm not having a dig at Ratten, but your logic isn't flawless either. The general increase of talent and maturity in our list took us to the finals. Brittain and Pagan had no where near as much to work with.
