Over to you, Jimmy Krakouer
25 March 2005 Herald Sun
Jim Wilson
FORMER Richmond coach Danny Frawley says Sunday's game between the Tigers and Geelong will be one of the most emotional but satisfying moments of his football life.
Done his time: Jimmy Krakouer was jailed for trafficking drugs.
Frawley will be in the radio commentary box when his protege and star pupil Andrew Krakouer will play for the first time in front of his famous father Jim.
It will be Jim's first time watching Andrew play after being released early from jail last August following a 16-year sentence for drug trafficking.
"I promised Jimmy when he was in prison last year, that I would do everything in my power to look after Andrew and I feel we have forged a special bond," Frawley told the Herald Sun.
The former North Melbourne and St Kilda champion was paroled after six years for his role in trafficking Amphetamines with an estimated street value of $500,000.
Now Jimmy is trying to rebuild his life and a major part of the process involves Andrew and being there for the young Tiger.
"I take pride that I have had something to do with Andrew's progress. But hey, you can never replace your dad and Sunday will be extra special for both Andy and Jimmy," Frawley said.
Krakouer Jr is one of the few people Frawley remains in contact with at Punt Road after his departure as senior coach at the end of last season.
"It's like a marriage break up. I feel like I have had to give the players space and that's in fairness to them as a group, and out of respect for football director Greg Miller and my replacement Terry Wallace," Frawley said.
While Frawley declared his allegiances lie with St Kilda, he has purchased a Richmond membership this year.
"I was looked after at Richmond and for the first time, the yellow and black looked after their own instead of eating their own."
And he has also opened up on the fact his own life is back on track after the stress of the past couple of seasons that took its toll on Frawley and his young family.
"I think you certainly have time with your family as a senior coach but it's probably not quality time, so I am more than happy to be enjoying my media roles and corporate gig at Linfox. My blood pressure is back to normal as well," Frawley joked. And while he would dearly love the Tigers and the Krakouers to taste success on Sunday, he's tipped Geelong to spoil the party.
==================================================
Sweet Jesus let it be one that's easily broken.
He takes pride in having stunted Andys' growth as a player.
It's like a marriage break up.
I wont visit the kids because I was such an abusive father that their new parents and all my old friends hate my guts.
That's the best he can come up with.
Hopfully we will learn from this mistake
LMAO@This idiots ego.
