Now assuming that Clarke and hilfenhaus are out wat is your side for the Boxing Day test?? Arthur's was talking bout Jackson bird and nathan coulter-Nile into the squads as a possibility. Do they make the 11 or is Johnson straight in and their just carrying the drinks.

Clarke as well. Arthur brought up some names and haddins name was there. I thought this was interesting. Others were khwaja, quiney and Dolan

Mine:
Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson (c)
Khwaja
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Starc
Bird
Lyon

Mine would be exactly the same as yours big sav, save for Huss above Ussie in the line up.

Quiney wont get another gig, Hadden I cant see either, Doolan is probably next closest but with Ussie getting the gig. Bird is not really in the longer term pic but a good in for Hilfy, reliable and in-form. I think the selectors would go with Johnson though.

Bird would have to come in for Hilf you would think but then again you would've thought he was ahead of Hastings, Hazlewood and Johnson at Perth. Then I guess it's who they make 12th man, would it be Bird? Personally I don't like Starc and Johnson in the same team, just far too many pies being given out with both those in the attack and puts too much pressure on Siddle and to a lesser extent Watson to try and restrict instead of bowling for wickets. So personally unless he cleans up tomorrow I would be giving the drink carrying duties to Starc, despite getting some wickets against SA overall he has bowled fairly average. With no shield to say otherwise, Khawaja probably has to come in for Clarke, we did discuss at work the chances of Watson either injuring himself or being rested because of the extra workload in this match... which could mean the specialist captain comes in at 5.
Is Clarke injured or something? Why isn't he going to be in the Boxing Day test?
hammy.

You know it's going to happen...

Haddin is the best option available when looking just at who will likely make the most runs. FWIW Arthur didn't bring up Haddin, he was asked if Haddin was an option. He then said that Haddin, Quiney, Khawaja and Doolan were all in the frame. I think they will go with Khawaja. It is the cleanest, simplest and long term option.

Watson will go down as one of the greatest Test captains of the last decade, alongside Floyd Reifer, Darren Ganga, and Kevin Pietersen.

Great name though

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson (c)
Hussey
Doolan
Wade
Johnson
Siddle
Lyon
Bird

I'm just not sure that what we need is another opener, I'd rather see Doolan than Khawaja, who for me still has a massive problem with pushing on for big scores, he gets starts but rarely makes the most of them.

As for the bowling, Bird deserves a shot which everyone agrees, Starc is bowling too much crap, yes I know Johnson does it too, but Starc has really lacked in penetration with his bowling and doesn't seem to of got into the throat that well, so for me I'd rather see Johnson.

Haddin will not be recalled as it makes no sense at all and could have a negative impact on Wade.

The only thing to say about this situation is that there isn’t anyone compelling enough to say “pick me” from a batting point of view. There are cases for and against Usman, Haddin, Doolan, Quiney. Whereas Hughes was pretty much got picked by the selectors when the time came. It would be interesting who they pick for the ashes as number 7 bat in 6 months time.

As for the bowling, well Arthur mentioned Bird and Coulter-Nile, along with Johnson in the squad. There is a case for all of them to play as well, but they also said that its also getting towards the bottom of the barrel. It’s time for the selectors to earn their wage.

Just to keep things in people's minds:
Most runs in this year's Sheffield Shield (taking out those already selected or unavailable for selection)
Ferguson 463
Khawaja 438 (plus most 50+ scores of any player so far in the competition)
Doolan 409

However, going by averages, with same paramaters (and those who wouldn't realistically play as a batsman)
Moises Henriques 78.5
Brad Haddin 67.4
Doolan 58.42
Rogers 42.5
Ferguson 40.4

However this is not taking into account Doolan's 150 against the South Africans. Going by that, I'd have to pick Doolan. Simple as that. Haddin's led his team in a couple of big matches but to put it bluntly he hasn't gotten the runs on the board. (337 this season) - stats show that we should pick Callum Ferguson or Alex Doolan, logic suggests that we should pick Khawaja or Doolan. Haddin's name shouldn't be in there. Quiney might be worth another shot.

Most wickets this year:

Jackson Bird 27 (what does this guy have to do to get picked?)
Butterworth, Feldmen 25
Cutting, Hastings, Sayers 22

Bowling averages, when taking realistic chances of making the team and playing at least a couple of games

Gannon 13.38
Putland 16.84
Hopes 17.5
Henriques 17.69
Butterworth 17.72
Cutting 18.81
Hastings 19.09
Bird 20.55

Ones in bold are the three that we really should be considering. Butterworth wouldn't be a bad selection and he can bat a bit.

So the team make up should really look something like this.

1. Warner (c)
2. Cowan
3. Hughes
4. Doolan
5. Hussey
6. Watson
7. Wade
8. Siddle
9. Starc
10. Bird
11. Lyon

12th man Cutting.

I have no idea who they are going to pick for this test if Clarke is unfit. I wouldn't be suprised if they went Quiney again. Surely not Haddin, I don't see the point. They should be still playing Sheffield Shield instead of BBL and save it for the end of the cricket season. It's hard to know who the form batsmen are.

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Khawaja/Quiney
Hussey
Wade
Watson
Siddle
Johnson
Bird
Lyon

I don't think you would drop Starc after one below par Test (that isn't even over yet, he might run through the Sri Lankans today).
