With what we know of the Gold Coast concessions and the ability to sign players over the last summer secretly, I beleive the crows need to act now to secure Taylor Walker and any other star player out of contract at the end of next season.

If some rumours are true that he is slightly unhappy it may make sense to settle his frustrations and let him know that the club beleives in him and they want him around. If he goes into the summer break not happy well we all know what can happen. Even if we get him to commit for just one more season just so his out of reach that would be benificial.

Doesn't GWS have a 2 year window in which they can pinch players from other clubs? If thats the case 1 year extension would mean very little because they could just pinch him at the end of 2012 as opposed to the end fo 2011

What's the rush? A little panicky, aren't we?

Deal with Tex next year. We've got other loose ends (Thommo/Dougie/Knights) to tie up at the moment.

i'm not sure you can be overly cautious when you're talking about such a prodigious talent.

After round 5 or 6 next year I reckon is the time. See how another pre-season and his performance is travelling. Best for both parties.

I agree Whilst i hope Walker makes it to date there is more evidence to say he is still a long way of.

More fish to catch before him ATM

Really? Any 20 year old kpf's performing better than him out there? He has work to do on his game, particularly his defensive game but I would have thought he's shown more than enough glimpses of brilliance in the forward line to suggest he's going to make it.

However he won't put pen to paper til next season. If he continues to progress in his devlopment and works hard over pre season I hope for a big year from Tex next year. (Would be even better if he's on the end of some bullet like Griffen passes;)) So he'd expect his next contract to be significantly more than his current one.

Western Sydney can sign him though over summer regardless. So some of you go whats the rush but I can tell you we have big money being thrown around its almost certain one of our players will bite and as I said if he is not happy leading into summer who do you think Sheedy will target? All our star players virtually are out of range leaving Walker the only one. The club would be irresponsible imo to take a punt that he wont sign. remember he has only been with the club for three seasons. loyalty might not be a strong point for him especially if its a chance to return to his native NSW

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that loop hole that existed last year to allow players to sign whilst still under contract during a particular period of time has now been closed. Don't think GWS can do the same thing. Don't know if this is right though.

Because either the Goldy Cooks or Greater Western Shitters will find some ridiculous Demetriou induced loophole to sign everyone.

Why would he sign on again?

If he is happy, wouldn't he sign a new contract ala Dangerfield, Tippett and MacKay and stay at the AFC. However if he is not and the stories are true that he dislikes NC. Why would he sign a contract extension now, wouldn't he wait and look at the coaching situation for the 2012 season and then make a decision based on that.

yes sign him, but why would he accept that offer.

Sheedy would love him.. I bet he's already showed interest.

I'd hate to lose Walker. I don't think he has been managed correctly with Craig's cookie cutter approach to players. I certainly don't want him to go but in all honestly I think he would be a very very special player under a Sheedy/Malthouse type coach that understands individualism.

Malthouse is a free man after 2011 isn't he?

Taylor wouldn't sign an extension now. He's going to have suitors up the ying yang during next season. His manager will leave it as late as possible.

We've got one season to stop dicking around with selection and to prove to him that his future lies with Adelaide.

Or you sit down with him, get to the bottom of what he wants / feels and if necessary look for a mutually beneficial trade now while you have some leverage.

Totally agree with this, I hope the Bock situation has made Craig realise that if a player feels his needs are going to be better served elsewhere he will just up and leave.

That's the reality that he faces with the senior no longer there. It's time for him to accept the peaks and troughs that come with young players and actually start seeing the forrest from the trees when it comes to player development.

Some of you are extraordinarily daft; there's no way in the world his management would have him signing a contract now unless we were paying him more than Tippett got in his recent extension. His management will quite correctly wait, until the end of next year when he hopefully has better form, subsequently more importance, and the spectre of GWS hovering over the horizon, razor sharp talons ready to pluck the easiest prey from the entirety of GondAFLand, before signing a very handy money contract with the Crows.

Where did it all go so wrong for Neil Craig and Taylor Walker?

A man with two first names and a man with two last names - should have been a match made in heaven :D
