Silly Saints Trades or absolute masterstrokes?

First of all, best of luck Sainters for the finals as long as we don't play you.

I was just thinking the other day of the Saints who have been traded - six in particular - who have gone on to be excellent players in the AFL and would be very handy in finals action in a StKilda jumper right now. I'm wondering who you guys got in terms of trades for...
Joel Smith?
Peter Everitt?
Barry Hall?
Matthew Lappin?
Wakelin*2?
Was trading these players worth the return?

Joel Smith - nothing... was picked up by hawthorn in PSD..
Peter Everitt - No.6 pick (Steven Salopek) on traded to Port for Barry Brooks and No. 22 pick Matthew Ferguson (is an emergency for match against brisbane???)
Barry Hall - traded for Nick Dal Santo (no. 13), James Kelly (no. 17.... which was traded for heath black and who was leaving through PSD but we traded him somehow to get atleast something in fiora), no. 45 (nathan clarke.. dunno)
Matthew Lappin - traded for James Begley and troy schwarze
Wakelin - Darryl?? , Shane ???

Barry Hall - Yes.
Peter Everitt - was a bad influence... good 2 get rid of him. Plus would have put pressure on salary cap
Lappin - average to bad trade.
Wakelin - shocking ... would have been really handy. Wouldn't have led to reliance on penny and others...

But then again, had they been there who would know if St kilda would even be in Premiership hunt in the first place in 2005...???

I used to work for a company where the atmosphere was...well...I hated going to work every day, the people were all sucks.
The company? Al***z Insurance. Really poor morale. Lots of staff turnover.
The place where I work now, the workload is about the same as A****z, but because the morale is great and it's all good, I always put in a big effort and work my ring off.
You need a change to find where you are suited.
Hall & Everitt were never going to achieve any more at the Saints; if they have flourished, it's because of where they've gone. Joel Smith is very overrated and he is no value IMHO.
Wakelin (either one)...agree with Axcellence.

Darryl Wakelin was effectively traded for Aaron Hamill. We traded pick Wakelin to Port, who traded pick 4 to carlton who traded Hamill to us.

Pick 4 was Luke Livingston (who is pretty crap), and we also gave up Sam Cranage to Carlton.

I think it was best to get rid of those players. Hall was like a cancer at our club, and he needed a fresh start to become the champion he is. Everitt was similar, and good on em for doing well.

I remember Joel Smith as a talented youngster back in '96 and '97 before he got injured a few weeks out from the finals and out of contract. Still he hasn't been outstanding with the Hawks and we can do without him just fine. (not to mention he has the worst hairstyle in the league, he'd be a smokey for the ugliest player's award)

A Wakelin or two would have been good to keep, but they're 31 and nearing the end of their careers.

In the end, we've done OK out of the trades, and we wouldn't want 5 extra 30 year olds on the list anyway.
