Imagaine a scenario where Buckley has the ball with 30 seconds left in a Grand Final and he's deep in the back half of the ground while we're 3 points up. Don't tell me you wouldn't be shitting yourself!

Close ur eyes.....

blokes a nightmare

Simon Buckley will stay in the team until Ben Johnson is ready to comeback (which might not be this season).
S.Buckley is better than Marty Clarke and Tom Young for the half back flank role. And I think he would be ahead of Marley Williams too, due to his height and experience.

This is the issue with him. He simply cannot be relied upon in finals matches. When the pressure is on and he has no time to make decisions he will consistently turn the ball over and put other players under pressure.

With Toovey & Shaw why do we need Buckely? The backs should be out of Reid, Brown, Tarrant, Maxwell, O'Brien, Shaw & Toovey. I'd like to see Johnson back as well but we don't need Buckley regardless. If we want someone of Buckley syle then I'd rather blood a kid who will make istakes becuase he is inexperianced rather than because he always has and always will make bad decisions under pressure.

An interesting stat that I found today, many of you are complaining about the amount of turnovers Simon has. His disposal efficiency percentage for the whole season is higher than the percentage these players have: Pendlebury, Swan, Wellingham, Johnson, Cloke, Dawes, Sinclair, Williams, Elliott, Didak.

Lots of to - ing and fro - ing about Buckley. I think the balance of argument comes down to pressure, and how it affects his decision making and implementation. I don't believe its his skills that are the problem, I believe its how he perceives and deals with pressure. The centering kick was not only ill advised but poorly executed, and its not like its an occasional thing under pressure, every time he gets has the ball and can't dispose of free of pressure he freezes up.

Bux has the right of it, its a confidence thing with him, but this isn't his first club and he's not a raw kid any longer. I can see him getting more games with our battered list but I can't see him lasting.

Those bests actually came from the collingwood website- meaning this was put out by the coaches.

About someone kicking 3 goals, is that blame solely put onto Simon, or the whole backline, maybe even his direct opponent.

Really, the coach knows best, and if Bucks is praising Simons efforts, then I think the supporting base should back our coach in knowing whether a player is good enough to be in the side or not. Simons selection isn't a structural thing, because we have Yagmoor, Seedsman, Young etc. In the VFL available to play his position
Its not by the coaches.
what was his votes in the coaches awards?

getting pretty sick of seeing this thread title every day. i take so much more notice of the argument when its not paired with over the top toolish stuff. he'll play again and the world won't end.

See the thing with Buckley is, unlike some players, his turnovers generally lead to direct goals which make his look so much worse than someone else who might just turn it over on the wing.

It appears no-one here heard (Nathan) Buckleys interview on SEN on Saturday morning. Amongst other things, he was asked about that (Simon) Buckley turnover. He replied that he told Simon it was the right decision - but just poorly executed. He then went on to lavish praise on Simon - saying hi's the best kick in the team, best in breaking the lines and setting up attacks and been amongst Collingwoods best players over the past 6 to8 weeks (during which I've been absent overseas).

Interestingly, he then acknowledged that Buckley has become the latest "whippping boy", after Toovey and Leigh Brown, but then basically implied these critics are clueless about watching footy and don't know what they're on about.

I put my trust in Nathen rather thsn BF critics.

It's Nathan Buckley's job to support his players. He needs to get the best out of them and he's not going to get that by saying "Look, Simon stuffed up in a big way, but don't worry, I gave him a good ol' fashioned blasting over it and his ears are still bleeding - I'd like to think he won't do it again but with Simon you can never be sure. Gee, I can't wait for Benny Johnson to be fit again.".

The only time you ever hear that a player is on the nose is when the club puts up a perfunctory note on their website in October that goes something along the lines of "The Collingwood Football Club wishes to announce that they will not be renewing the contract of <player name>. The Collingwood football club wishes <player name> all the best for his future."

It is a pity mick did not follow the support your player to the hilt guideline last year when he singled him out for serve last year on national tv during a match maybe he might not be so lacking in confidence now.

With S Buckley,s size and kicking prowess he should be in the 1sts every week but he would not be if we had a full list to pick from.

Can someone please put a link to N Buckleys interview by all accounts it is worth listening to.

15 minutes into the interview. Buckley talks about Simon Buckley. The club encourages Simon to take the game on, commented on the fact Nathan thinks he's a good kick. So, who thinks the coach is peanuts still?

On a side note, Nathan also commented on why we lost the game. Clearances and hardball gets.

I think in fairness to Simon Buckley, people now notice each and every turnover he does.

All players turn it over, even players like Pendles and Judd have done some terrible turnovers this year.

They all do, it's the high pressure nature of the game.

Buckley gets the ball a lot and turns it over once or twice a game.

I think sometimes because it's often more a bad decision rather than poor execution is what makes his stand out more ( plus we're now looking for it as I said above)

I haven't noticed his DE stats are significantly worse than everyone else, and though I do admit they only tell part if the story, I would say that they still have some credence.

And if he has been encourage to 'take the game on' then that also will naturally come at a price DE wise.

His laconic looking nature is a big part of his image problem I think.

Hmmm, if "laconic looking nature'" was the criteria then Swan would be Sir King whipping boy No. 1.

But I know what you mean, something about him screams 'victim'.

Contrast him with Sinclair. Sinclair used to be a whipping boy. But Sinclair would just shrug off his stuff ups and keep going hard at it. And he managed to get rid of the label quickly.

S. Buckley has a beautiful long kick on him and does not always turn it over, agreed. He seems to be taking a longer and better look when in space and is turning it over less, agreed. However, 60m raking passes to the opposition, in tight moments, that open us up and result in opposition goals -do tend to stand out like a dog with shaved nuts- they kill us and that is what he has been doing at the most inopportune times in games. You only need to see this once or twice a game, hear the collective sigh around the ground of 40 or 50 thousand fans, see the players on mass slump their shoulders and visibly witness the wind going out of our sails, to know that it is defining his career at the moment and he has to find a way to cut it out f his game forever.

I'm predicting 1 out on the full, one direct turn over resulting in a goal and he least amount of tackles by any player on the ground.

This compounds his mistakes in my eyes. Just not hard at it for someone of limited ability. This is where Johnno kills him as a player. God speed in your recovery Ben Johnson.

He has been selected.:p

Let the fun begin, Big Footy's new whipping boy will cause havoc again.

Yeah he can Turn The Ball Over Some Bloody More

CollingwoodB: Harry O’Brien, Nathan Brown, Chris Tarrant
HB: Nick Maxwell, Ben Reid, Alan Toovey

When will Nathan Buckley realise that he is playing near on the worst player in the AFL.Surely he and the match commitee will come to their senses and heed, the advice of those on BF that know better !!!!
