Watched him in the two's a couple of weeks ago and he was a standout player. The poise he shows when going for marks, and the way he
approaches his footy tells me that we have picked up a real good player who may turn out
something special. You can just tell with some players when you see them in general play they are natural footballer's with above average skills.Wiggins is the best mark for his size I have seen at Carlton since Ken Hunter. It didnt surprise me that Wiggins started with a great mark and goal in his first game he has been doing it all year in the twos..sign the kid up for a five year deal ..quick..we dont want any more Hamill situations.

That's the great thing about young players. Everything they do right is magnified until its seem as something special while their faults are ignored.. at least for a few years anyway. There are people who still think Hartlett is going to be a gun despite his inability to play anything close to AFL football for three years.

In all fairness it was Wiggo's first year and he was only a couple of VFL games in. There have been a lot of big calls on Aisake, Edwards, Austin and co on this board. Just because they show some glimpses early but then fade, does that mean that nobody should predict how a player may turn out?

Of course not, without predictions this forum would carry about 10% of its current traffic. Just don't be surprised when you are called a goose down the track. That's the price you pay for the luxury of unaccountable guesswork.

PS: Is there a record for oldest thread revisited?

Make or break year for Wiggo this year ..I'm hoping he can prove some of you nay sayers wrong ....(not that that would be very hard mind you )

He's 25 next year and has had 8 years at the club.

...

Had he been drafted by any other club he would have been gone a long time ago. One of the biggest hacks of the competition no doubt. How he's survived this long is beyond me.

True. I guess the point is that the very posters throwing around the goose calls are at this very moment raving about some other youngster who probably won't make it.

On this board? Probably the archived one I dug up which was the first ever thread on the Carlton board .... currently enjoying a re-reun in the Blue Room.

Exactly. Please refer innumerable threads where I was pilloried as unCarlton for begging supporters of JK and JR to tell me how they KNOW they are going to be stars.

That's fine. There are those that while questioning others proclaiming a future star, then go and proclaim a player a future dud. Fencesitting in the absence of evidence is not such a bad thing either way.

If this is his 8th year at the club he'll get life membership. I wonder whether he'll still be on the list when he receives it this time next year!

Even now wiggins is still a very good mark - too bad everything else he does is shit

His work ethic and his 2nd and 3rd efforts are pretty sound as well. Just not sure he has the class to stay on the Carlton list past 2008. As someone else said, next year is make or break for him.

Appreciate your clever dig. Have always had people screaming at me to be patient - to give young players time to develop. Try this on for size - be patient and wait for the development to come before flapping your gums.

Why do so many supporters want to call a player a star so early in their careers? What is achieved? Proof of a good eye for young talent? So what? A good guess is just as accurate most times. Look at the draft. The chance to say I told you so? That's it? Is it so bad to sit back and observe a player either rise or fall without labeling him one way or the other the moment he appears from the womb, boots first? Fencesitting. Hilarious.

No dig intended. Truth is I can not remember if you fall into this category or not so was just throwing an opinion out there. Always playing the devil's advocate.

You will find that I am a fencesitter extraordinaire in many situations.

Surely he will struggle to get a regular game this season? Poor decision making skills and doesn't really anticipate very well. Good mark for his size and tries hard but this isn't enough at AFL level.

poor wiggo he tries so hard for the blue bagger cause, but just can't kick, great mark on him as displayed against west coast earlier in the year, didn't do much after that....think he was a top pick in the draft as well, 8 0r 9 i think? one to forget:(
