stevens has been a good player for us since coming over from port but he is getting older he has had a bad injury and needs to spend this preseason getting his body right and worrying about playing good football week in and week out.

when simpson was captain in 07 he played the best football of he career to date. imo he is ready to step up and be aa in 09. he has pride in the jumper and will lift if give the opportunity to be vc.

Agree about Simmo but giving Stevo the boot would do nothing to spur him to greater efforts. He was majorly gutted by missing the captaincy. Reckon he'd rather sulk. Love to be wrong.

I'd be happy to see Stevens hold it for another season or two, and then see Gibbs take it in readiness to take over the captaincy from Judd.

Don't see a real need to mess with it, and cause potential conflict...

Stevens deserved the vice-captaincy a few years back maybe when there were none better than him. .

I think there are quite a few players who will overtake Stevens next year in terms of leadership on the field.

Yup, my sentiments exactly. The club won't take it off Stevo even if they wanted to because it will be looked at in a very negative light by Stevo and the media.

Just thought I would mention though that Wayne Johnston had a sensational 1986 after having the captaincy taken off them. Some players respond to adversity and don't really need the pressure that comes with leadership.

Byrce Gibbs is only 19 and hasn't got all the tricks yet. Stevens is 28 and is older and wiser and doing everything he can for the club. Gibbs has another 15 years to be captain or vice!

No thanks, I tend to believe that your captains and vice captains should come from the group of the best 5 - 10 players on the list, and clearly Kade Simpson is not a top ten player at the club anymore.

WHy does our club give rewards to players out of fear that they may head in the wrong direction? That's what you're basically saying in regards to the club not taking it off stevens, because he will react badly to it.

There's your problem right there. The captain of the CFC should be chosen by Poll on the BigFooty forum next February. I can't see an issue with this.

Stevo leads well on field so I wouldn't be stripping the Vice-captaincy of him just yet.

Would rather wait a few years and pass it onto one of the younger guys (murph, Gibbs, Jamo?) then have it thrown around like a rag doll.

For mine we should be leaving Stevens off the register as Vice. Id much rather have a youngish player in support of Judd given Judd will likely have the gig for 5 years plus. Then in 2014 or so a young Murphy or Simpson could take over, sort of like Bradley did from under Kernahan.
