Dangerfield's game as of right now is as good as anything Ablett Junior produced.
The major differences are that Junior played at this level two years sooner than Dangerfield and he remained at this peak for the next 6-7 years which kind of puts things into perspective, just how phenomenal Ablett has been.

Having said that, there are aspects of Dangerfield's game in which Ablett didn't have due to his smaller stature and limited leaping prowess.
This could see Dangerfield do some impressive things at the tail end of his career which may one day see him rank as of the best midfielders of his generation.

High praise indeed Bobby and you may not be far off in your prediction....what gets me is his explosive pace....and even if opposition players can get to him, his lower body strength in combination with his pace makes him very difficult to stop. Not sure I have seen anything similar for 20 years!! (if you get my drift! )

Ablett rarely made mistakes and that is what separates him from the rest. Even kicking for goal he was exceptionally accurate from all angles.
Obviously his disposal use leaves Dangerfield for dead as Danger butchers it on a regular basis.
What is impressing me at the moment is Dangerfield's ability to beat the heavy tags. This is nothing new as he did it at Adelaide for a quite a few seasons in a row. It seems as though he's right now at his absolute physical prime where tagging him can only work for a limited time before he eventually overpowers you.

It's like Ablett passed over the torch to Fyfe for a couple of years and now it's Dangerfield's time to pick up the slack while Fyfe sits out the year.

Ablett Snr? Oh my. He made tons of mistakes.

He was almost laughable if he was flat footed.
He'd act to go right. Or left. And get done cold.

Once he had momentum though. He was a train on his own tracks.

Nah. Abletts possession alone makes his games better. He hit players on chests regularly. Danger sprays them a lot.

No. Ablett Junior I am talking about here. His father is not even in the same conversation I'm afraid. Not as a midfielder/rover/winger.

That is true but without Dangerfield this year, we are probably a medium-table team. That is his incredible influence. Similarly to the manor in which Chris Judd made Carlton a finals bound team almost immediately. These types of footballers are so rare. You get your Selwood's, Pendlebury's, Black's, Buckley's and Mitchell's but the likes of Judd, Ablett, Fyfe, or Hird's . . . guys who are so dynamic, so prodigious, they almost come around once every certain number of years.
Watching Dangerfield play alongside Selwood at the moment, no disrespect but the skipper looks like the second best player by a long way.

Agree with all that especially the similarity to Judd with the added bonus the danger can take contested marks where as Judd couldnt. But both are/were weak in hitting targets whereas ablett was elite in that area and hitting targets is almost fifty percent of what matters.

You're underestimating him.

I remember him kicking a lazy 12 (?) off the wing once.

Don't forget one had a pre-season, the other virtually none

I like danger but he's no gazza in my opinion. He murders the ball sometimes.

Hey peeps. Didn't know where else to post this but given the topic of this thread I thought here was the most appropriate place. I've made the late decision to travel over to the Adelaide game with 3 others who would love to stick it to the crows fans should paddy put in a blinder. Only problem is there doesn't seem to be any tickets left besides g/a. Dose anybody know if there's usually tickets released closer to the match or am I pretty much screwed? Any information would be appreciated.

No middle ground, he either nails an epic pass or sprays it a mile off.
Champion though regardless, I certainly don't look at it badly.
Yeah definitely a champion but I dont think he's Gazza. Gaz was next level. Michael Voss was a better player than Danger, Gaz was a better player than Michael Voss.

Perhaps but if we are talking about truly great midfield footballers, Senior simply isn't in the discussion.
He's arguably the greatest match winning footballer of them all, a bloke who could literally boot 3-4 goals in one single quarter on an all too frequent basis. Even Wayne Carey would sit comfortably behind him when it came to flipping games on their head but that was predominately as a half forward/full forward and not a midfielder like his son.

Didn't look that way against Port IMO. Selwood was superb.
Coming off no pre-season he's starting to warm up now. Still our best player imo.

That's no slight on Dangerfield who's superb also.

Very true - that pass to Motlop was incredibly good , noticeably whilst he was on the run he was able to steady and deliver. Similarly hew looks a great field kick from a mark or free
He does butcher it a bit though - mainly when he's at warp factor 3 and being harassed or off balance
Geez he's a competitor though - how good was he after that cheap shot to his back ;)
