What do you guys find the best set up for weapons? One handed and shield/two handed/one handed and magic/2x one handed?

This will depend on what race you chose.

I also predict that most people are still on their 1st 'serious' character (given the amount of content in Skyrim)... so for most (and for me) it is hard to compare ATM what is the 'best' set up.

Being WoodElve and an archer type I am focusing on:

Prim: ranged
Sec: board n sword (well dagger ATM)

And now and then use resto healing or scrolls for magic.

Crapped my pants last night... Was exploring on foot with Lydia close behind and heard/felt the rumble of a near by dragon. "Cool" I thought, licking my lips at the opportunity to score another Dragon Soul plus loot.

So I took my eyes to the sky and saw the majestic beast fly high overhead away from me. I started following in pursuit as its focus seemed to be on a nearby Giant/ Mammoth camp. I watched for a minute or so to see the dragon tease the Giants with a couple of fly bys.

When I heard another rumble... :-|

And in the sky to my left was a 2nd dragon circling and looking for mortal prey. I bailed and sunk back in to Sneak mode and high tailed it out of there, scampered up the side of a mountain and then watched from a distance as 2 dragons circled the skies above the plains.

It was pretty cool viewing (now my life was safe).

Was that between Riften and Windhelm??
I was around there to get the sappling from that "sacred" tree and went past the Giant camp.... then Boom 2 dragons from nowhere, the giants weren't interested either, so the dragons just chased me... I sprinted and hid behind some rocks :thumbsu: haha

Finished the 'forbidden legend' quest today, made me laugh

Just because you get the quest by reading some book which tells you how these 3 sons broke up their fathers powerful amulet and went on a rampage across Skyrim, forcing the King to send mages to defeat the trio. Apparently scores of Mages were killed just battling one son, and they barely managed to defeat them. As a precaution, the amulet pieces were sent across Skyrim, sealed in a crypt with the spirit of the evil sons in order to protect the madness from ever occurring again.

So naturally we collect all the pieces, battling the sons in order to claim their bit of power, eventually defeating the entire family in order to reforge the mystical amulet which caused so much destruction and ruin across Skyrim.

What is this mysterious power which enable the Father and three sons to wreck havoc upon the world?

30 plus points the health, stamina and magicka.

The world now trembles at my feet as I wield the secret power of the mighty amulet! Bit of a let down lol

I'm level 35, and a little over 140 hours played. (I'm guessing I'm a little slow :D ) Still got a heap to do. Two of the main towns I haven't started doing missions for yet, and another one have only done one mission. Probably have more quests lined-up in my list than I've ever had. Have only finished the mages and companions quest lines.

Finally got married a couple of days ago. Here I am (left) chatting to my partner (right) :)

Nice... yeah I'm starting to go through a mid 30s crisis and am contemplating sealing the deal and having some kids.

Got my eyes on some potentials, but none seem interested ATM (even with amuMara).

I think we might soon need a Skyrim Hotness Poll for everyone to vote on the best spouses.

I couldn't finish this stupid quest. Got to the last place (S-something?) and it was locked.

If it's the place I think you're thinking of, I think you have to join the Mages at Winterhold and do one or two quests then they open it

^ Correct... to get into the "Saarthal" dungeon (which is normally locked) you must 1st enter Winterhold and gain entry to the mage college (NPC will ask you to show her you magic skills... cast a firebolt at the ground).

Once inside the mage's college you do a couple of quick "initialisation quests" etc before getting a quest called "Under Saarthal" where you must meet a mage teacher outside the Saarthal dungeon.

He will then let you in to Saarthal and both quests: "Under Saarthal" and "Forbidden Legend" have quests goals inside the dungeon.

...
As for the amulet quest reward... yeah, it isn't really EPIC, but I wouldn't say it is crap either. 30 points each in Magika, Health and Stamina is basically 9 levels worth of point allocation (since you can only allocate 10 points per level to one area).

That might not matter too much at higher levels but for low levels it is pretty good value early in the game.

IE:
Level 12(without): M=100, H=160, S=160
v
Level 12(with): M=130, H=190, S=190

* even if you don't use a skill (ie Magika) that is 6 character levels difference.

I still agree though... it isn't something that would enable you to wreck havoc on Skyrim.

Lame :( Don't want to be a mage

You don't have to be a Mage... but you always have access to magic spells. Just like a Mage can always wield 2h weapons etc.

Interestingly enough, when I opened Saarthal I was undecided as to where my character would go, and after that quest I abandoned any magicka my character used in order to focus on one handed and marksman skills. It doesn't take much to open, just firebolt, go speak to the guy inside, he'll give you a spell then he'll meet you at the entrance and open it for you. Then you can just drop the Mages questline afterwards like I did, I decided to save that for my next character who will be centred on magicka

And I know the amulet is helpful, and I am wearing it currently, but yeah, the entire backstory to it just made me laugh a bit at it.

Ok, this is insane.

I just entered Falkreath for the first time at level 32, the problem is, 2 Elder Dragons (Bronze) always spawn in the area and absolutely destroy me. After several tries, I beat them both, 90% of the town is wiped out, so I keep feeling prompted to try again. I even brought a Heavily Armored Lydia and Summon Frost Atronach and they still wipe out nearly everyone.
