I don't know shit about rock, but everytime I see slash make a guest appearance, he tears the ****ing house down.

Take this performance at this year's grammy's (which doesn't do jamie foxx nor his top notch vocal skills any justice whatsoever because of the bloody autotune, but that's besides the point).

As soon as slash came out, the performance went from average to LIFE instantaneously.

I dunno anything about rock so feel free to shit on my opinion. No doubt some won't like it because he's not performing with rock artists. My point is that he made the overall performance.

that guitar sounds like it could have been better if it was put through the auto-tune as well.

i think he provided the kind of easily-identifiable and tokenistic performance required of the grams. it wasn't much more than that. as a character, i can't fault him. a bit enigmatic, mysterious, at least gives the appearance of some kind of mildly kooky virtuoso (as opposed to someone like buckethead who is the real deal crazy-wise). slash provided as a schtick and tack-on to what else is going on, is no doubt far more digestable to the same people who will otherwise ignore his music in droves. were they cheering for his celebrity, or because they can appreciate his guitar skills? it begs the question, doesn't it...

insightful post :thumbsu:

Boring band.

Axl Rose' voice is incredibly grating and I can't get half way through a GnR song without wanting to stab at my ears.

Oh, and he's a massive tool too.

oh ok i thought you might of based that 'average band' call on seeing them live when they were the biggest band in the world...

According to your good self of course?

Unless by biggest you mean a shitload of bogans and rednecks enjoyed their music simultaneously?

im just wanting some sought of evidence or insight with substance on why Guns and Roses were an average band.

Boring band with boring songs.

Axl Rose is overrated as a singer and Slash is overrated as a guitarist.

Their is a direct correlation between people who listen to GnR and people who listen to other overplayed bogan rock bands such as AC/DC etc.

I suppose Angus Young is another overrated guitarist right?

And of course there's a correlation.. just like there'd be a correlation between people who like Britney and Christina or people who liked Snow Patrol and Coldplay. I don't really see the point of your comment other than to advertise your personal prejudice against GnR and AC/DC which limits your objectivity somewhat when discussing the prowess of their respective guitarists.. I would've thought.

unlike acdc gnr have more than two chords.

tis a pity they are "bogan rock staples" cause appetite for destruction is a killer debut album and the use your illusions not bad for early 90s concept albums.

just a pity axl is a very odd person.

other than your personal opinion which you're entitled too is there any reason why they are boring.

IMO they have good blues based rock. Up-tempo energetic and fun. Slash is not the best guitarist ever but to say he is boring is pretty over the top.

That performance from Prince is amazing. He is one of the world's most gifted artists. A very gifted guitar player and he can play a stack of instruments, not to mention being a very good singer.

Slash is going to tour his live album with Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge, Creed with a better singer) on vox. Will be a good show if they bother to come here.

^You've just got to respect Prince's versatility.

Really enjoyed that.

Interested in other rock fans' thoughts on the performance?

Keep in mind that he was playing with Tom Petty and Jeff Lyne, along with Harrison's son, who are brilliant musicians in their own right and so they add to the overall affect. Clapton, who played the solo in the original version of How My Guitar Gently Weeps, would be impressed by Prince.

Clapton's performance of How My Guitar Gently Weeps, from Concert for George, is simply awesome. Watch this soon as it will no doubt be taken down from youtube in the next few days. Also, Concert for George is one of the best albums I have heard.

concert for george was pretty awesome. (full stop) :thumbsu:

Erm.. it's called While not How and I wouldn't exactly put Dahni (Danhi?) in the same league as Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne or Prince.

Actually I wouldn't put Tom Petty in Jeff Lynne's league and I wouldn't put Jeff Lynne in Prince's league either.

kthxbai

How. While. Same thing. :D Yeah, but Prince was not in The Traveling Wilburys. :D
