What if he hadn't chased after Judd and had Kennedy still at the club?

Would we be in a better position now? Kennedy would have a massive impact on our structure. The opportunity cost of replacing Judd with say another B+ midfielder (Grigg) is probably not as big compared to the forward line holes we have

What if Fev was still here and Hendo was at Brisbane?

What if we didn't use a 1st round pick on Brock McLean and got Luke Ball instead?

Any other Sliding Door moments to ponder? Some interesting sceenarios out there

What if the US electoral system wasn't ******* up, and Al Gore was rightfully elected president in 2000 instead of the warmonger Dubya Bush ???

I don't see anything wrong with a thread to discuss a hypothetical like this, thought it's been done in various places.

Thing a lot of people who pose these questions don't really think about is that it's not a straight swap of players.

It's a swap of players and picks
Would we have taken Masten with pick 3?
Would we have taken Notte with pick 18?
Would they have taken Army with the pick that came back our way?
If we didn't do the deal would he have ended up at the Filth?
Would he have ended up in the PSD at Richmond?
Would Marc Murphy have developed as he has without Judd?
Would Robbo been on his development curve (and on the rails) but for Judd?
How important has Judd been to the overall professionalism of the club?
Would we have retained key talent without Judd's presence?

It's an interesting enough thread, but I suspect it's complexity is beyond a lot of those who think it's a simple question of comparing like for like and worse still an on-baller for a KPP.

All theories that don't really matter to me, it would of been good to keep Kennedy..

But I'll tell you one thing even when we are as insipid as we were yesterday it brings a smile to my face knowing I get to watch Chris Judd play football live at least 10 times a year.. So to be honest f*** your Sliding Doors, I don't care.

What if FDR didn't allow Pearl Harbour to happen, thus not allowing USA
to enter ww2.. Meaning the Nazis overtake Russia, complete the building of their nuclear weapons and destroy the world?

I have heard that if the Club knew McCarthy was going to be available for our second pick, we would have taken Jack Darling at 18.

I'm not shedding tears for that miss.
Watson will be something else when we bring him up to a defensive speed.

Can do without Jack Fevola, I mean Darling

Bit unfair to judge JD like that Harks, he hasn't set a foot wrong so far this year. Anyhow very happy with Watson and wouldn't trade him for anyone.

Very, very harsh on a kid who made a small mistake or two. On field, there really is no comparison between their application. It took Fevola 10 years to begin chasing with consistency. Darling's defensive work has been admirable from day one.

As for the OP, only a fool couldn't see the impact that Judd has on the side. He's the best footballer of the past decade and second only to Ablett over the past 5 years. Kennedy would be very handy but Judd he is not.

It's a swap of players and picks. Absolutely
Would we have taken Masten with pick 3? Speculation, but there is a definitive out there.
Would we have taken Notte with pick 18? Specualtion again.
Would they have taken Army with the pick that came back our way? Who really knows?
If we didn't do the deal would he have ended up at the Filth? We'd need to ask Judd or his manager, but they wouldn't tell us anyway
Would he have ended up in the PSD at Richmond? NOOOOO
Would Marc Murphy have developed as he has without Judd? How to know?
Would Robbo been on his development curve (and on the rails) but for Judd? How to know?
How important has Judd been to the overall professionalism of the club?
Great point for discussion as there are some tangibles involved.
Would we have retained key talent without Judd's presence?
Don't know but would make for healthy possibilities.

I just don't see this type thread of any value and it really stems from a loss rather than for any valuable discussion.

From it's starting point, how far back do we really want to go?
Would have Carlton taken the course it had, without Barrassi defecting from Melbourne in 1965?

Too thin on top and really pointless.

Point accepted. Sorry Jack Darling.

I was somewhat pumped at what I saw from Watson on the weekend and we may be a year or two away from having the backline we want, but what a treat it will be watching the ball come out of defence straight into our half of the ground via, Watson, Tuohy and co.

I can't wait.

Many of the games greatest players had off field issues, Carey, Ablett Snr even Big Nick. If we start over looking exciting young talent in the draft because of perceived 'issues' that would be a big mistake, but then again we got burnt by Karl Norman and Lawrence Angwin.

I really regret Angwin's downfall, he could have been such an valuable and damaging player for us
