this passage of play has a striking resemblence to the game vs Collingwood where sloane was dodging and weaving deep inside 50 and gave the handball off to a running charlie cameron who kicked his first goal in afl..
..this time he chose not to handball....understand it was the last minute of the game and it's not easy making decisions after you've just run 20kms in the last 2hrs.

its easy from my arm chair to tell him to pass off.
different on the ground.
that one decision didnt lose us the match. yes, it could have won it for us, but everything we did during the game contributed to our loss.

did my post say it was easy and he should have handballed?
did i say it cost us the match?

Danger obviously should have gone back and nailed an easy set shot, but he also should have nailed that snap as well. If he did we would all be fapping over it and barely mention it was risky.

Sloane just had an awful day. At the time it was easy to say he should have handballed, but watching the replay suggests it wasn't a straight forward handball anyway.

meh

he didn't kick 16 points, he didn't provide multiple goals on a platter to the opposite, he didn't develop a game plan that relies on elite skills which the team doesn't possess

so basically it is a non issue and better than 9/10th of the rest of the game.

My only reason could be thinking back to Josh Jenkins goal after the siren last week, didn't think there was enough time for another possession.

Hit the post from an easy shot late in the Melbourne game, too. Rory isn't looking his best lately.

I'm a fan but I do feel like he's sometimes a little overrated by basically everyone. Sometimes even the coaches. I remember last year he got the most best and fairest votes of anyone on the team for the Sydney match when we got flogged. There were two men running around on their own that day, hanging off the back of every stoppage, picking up plenty of cheap touches. Rory was one of them, and finished with 31 touches, most of which ended up being handballs out of pressure, as Sydney were ferocious that day. But the other was Hanneberry, who had a whopping 42 touches and was clear BoG. He had more of the ball and used it way better. Set up an incredible amount of goals in the first half especially. I couldn't see how the heck Sloane was our clear best when he really had little impact, especially compared to his effective opponent. Zero scores, only 4 tackles, few score involvements. Everyone else was bad, too, but Rory was hardly superior to Vince and Douglas that day. It was a weird one and probably won him the gold jacket.

Probably mind not entirely on the job with is oldies arriving in Adelaide, might have disrupted his prep. Still he's got plenty in the bank and no one else turned up either

Danger & Sloane are trying to do everything themselves. It's not really working, but you can't fault their endeavour.

Had a shocker, everyone does from time to time.

Not convinced we're using him effectively; or that he even knows what his role is.

This is something I've been pondering on a while. Are we honestly using people in the best positions for the team?

Sloane, Danger and Smith I personally believe need to be rotated more throughout other positions.

I would like to see Smith having more midfield time and less time in defense. Both Danger and Sloane should rotate with him and forward as well.

Sloane and Danger could be handy on the outside as they have a bit of toe and use more Lyons and Thompson to extract the ball.

Mackay i worry about and Dnager, Sloane and Lynch could run in his role a bit.

Just thinking about our structure and think it could use some players being moved a little. Sloane and Danger are used far top much bashing and crashing through when you can use players who are "smart" in extracting the ball and feed to our runners.

Danger and sloane get the centre clearances and then are expected to kick goals deep inside 50...no wonder they couldnt make correct decisions infront of goal...they're out of puff when it matters infront of goal

Just another good player being ruined by an amateur coaching group.
give it a ****ing rest. he's played 1 or 2 bad games this year FFS

Who else has he turned into a plodder?

Plenty of players have gone backwards under Sando. Van Berlo, Reilly, Petrenko and Porplyzia for starters. Also I seem to remember Johncock going from near AA small defender to a list clogger over one preseason under Sando.

Yes, even Sloane is allowed a bad game - it's just surprising as such a rare occurrence. Can't be dirty on him, as wasn't an obvious 100% handball any way.

Think we need to settle Sloane in mainly his wingman role, as his gut running gives a significant edge .. with only the occasional inside role. Ditto with Mackay on the other wing.

Similarly would "rest" Danger's ribs mainly up forward with cameo's on ball.

Leave the inside grunt work for Thompson, Kerridge, Lyons & Douglas, with the other guys with small stints.

How could Petrenko go backwards?

I know it doesn't doesn't matter but vs Collingwood Sloane handballed to Wright who passed it to Cameron, then put on a nice sheppard, to kick the goal.
