Sometimes to be AFL ready you need to be given a real go not 10mins as a sub etc..
The VFL doesnt benefit everyone..

We wont make finals so its time to explore who is AFL capable

We are currently 'giving a real go' to the likes of Atley, Harper, Macmillan, Black, Cunnington, Bastinac, Wright, Ziebell, Gibson, Tarrant etc. You wanna give a go to every other under prepared player on the list as well, be prepared for a wooden spoon. We can only play so many developing types.

Didnt mean to upset you mate... just giving my thoughts isnt that what this websites about ...
Some of those blokes have played the whole season they are lacking confidence and the skill level virtually doesnt exist, the only bloke im proud of each week is Atley gonna be a star, and i love harps just seems to get tired easily..

Just disappointed we are not showing improvement like other clubs are ... that's why i get fired up every week!

Our Backline is the one part of our team that isn't slow, don't know why you are all reading into a theory concocted by Dermie of all people.

Look at West Coasts Back 6 compared to ours on the weekend

I honestly wouldn't be worried about that. Patrick has got Jetta-class speed when he puts on the burners, so it wasn't a big surprise when Flash was able to get past him. If it was anyone else in our forward 6 they would probably get caught. But Derm made it seem that everyone is as quick as Patrick, which just isn't the case at all.

Kudos to those who identified the skill level coming out of the backline as the major issue, not speed.

Spud being replaced by either Cam Delaney or Kennedy will help this instantly (and also make us much quicker).

I would prefer better disposal out of the back half than speed. Our poor ball use and decision making makes us look slow.

The problem is that our defence are getting no favours from our midfield and when your opponent is receiving kicks to their advantage well it just exacerbates our problems.

Until our midfield do their job and plug holes across half back and guard space properly then our defence will be exposed.

I would move Atley to the middle as he can create and break lines. Yes this would take a lot of run and dash from our defense but I believe the best form
of defence is attack and Atley breaking the lines across the wing would more than likely have their defence more on the back foot and less inclined to move forward. Mullet could grow into that run and carry role if given the chance like a lot of the younger blokes have been given. I would also like to see Kennedy come in for Firitto to add strength and Disposal efficiency as Spud just turns it over too often. Our key defenders should be Thompson and Petrie and yes I'm going to harp on Petrie to CHB because we are too one dimensional with him at FF. We are so easy to defend against. Black and Tarrant from the square with Hansen roaming CHF.

That's my take anyway.

I think Petrie would be too cumbersome down back. Just my opinion. We just need to get it to him "properly" in attack. Easier said than done tho.

Mullet Kennedy sierawkoski mkenzie cam delany all siting in th 2's I think we have it covered long term provided these guys develop steadily. We really have to be patient - its annoying. Although our effort the last 5 weeks has been unacceptable - there's no excuse for a lack of effort and pride - that comes with character not age and games played

What a bloody idiot Derm is. Backlines aren't designed to chase down opponents running into an open 50. I know he had a great game but Atley's effort was not good enough there to get the ball.

This whole slow backline thing is nonsense.

This is what i dont understand we drafted 2 blokes that are foot soldiers in McKenzie and Sierakowski yet one hasnt played and the other has played 10mins .... both can kick 60 like hurn....
I was pretty excited when we picked up these two blokes as i though that meant we were addressing the fact that we r the worst team in the comp from kick outs (and we still are) yet we use handball or bomb long ....

Once we get these 2 into our defense it will start coming out of there much better. I hope it happens asap

On VFL form Kennedy will be in a North jumper before Mullet & McKenzie get another game, which is no disrespect to those two, Kennedy has had a great return from his knee injury!

I have a feeling that - barring injury or some truly putrid form - the official phasing out of Spud will not occur until the end of this season at the earliest.

They're always going to look slow when the ball's continually going in there at 1,000 miles an hour.

If you want to make changes to the team they would have to be two or threefold to change the structure and impact ball movement not just moving the deckchairs.

Currently we select said deckchair and toss over the rails after 2 games - rinse and repeat.

Our midfield is inside and one paced and lack link players.

How about Atley or Adams tag? Outside mid or fast HBF comes in for Greenwood.

Say what you like about LA but when North get it in the backline he was taking uncontested marks at HBF or wing.
