Can Walker play as a small forward?

No but Kersten could play as a medium….Wont bring the manic pressure that the smalls are supposed to, but given we are searching for ANY forward under 195 to kick something, we could do worse…

And he has had a good mix of opportunistic and more traditional goals as well…. from what I hear….

GO Catters

Thing is I could handle it until we persevered with Kelly the last couple of years and even Enright this year. Now the decision seems just as inconsistent as it does stupid.

It looks more and more like a decision based on a personality clash than one on football matters. Which is a shame.

we won plenty of the ball against Fremantle when the game was there in the balance and every time we pumped it inside fifty, Hawkins and Clark gave us literally nothing. I know some will whinge about that but it's a fact. Watch the replay in the second and third quarter. Caddy, Selwood, Guthrie were winning the ball so it's not solely a midfield issue. Our forward line setup is bloody shizenhousen!
It's been that way for years.
You think back when Hawkins had a back back and he was left there to try and be the single key forward target when there were clearly options available so something is breaking down between the coach and the forwards coach, or whoever sets up that half of the field.

Also, Bartel has never, not once shown he is capable of becoming a goal kicking forward so who orchestrated that one?
Why not try someone who is very agile and quick off a standing start a go?
Agree with most of that except the Bartel bit. I thought he was excellent playing as a forward at the beginning of last year.

McCarthy is injured. Johnson, Stokes, Bartel and even Motlop are playing predominantly midfield now. Refusal to play Smedts forward or play Blease altogether. Never dropping Murdoch when he's out of form.
A specialist small forward doesn't seem to be much of a priority for the MC at the moment. Long bombs to Hawkins still seems to be the only plan even with Clarke there.

Gregson did look good but he played quite a bit around the ground as well - as Motlop does. So we end up without a small forward often as shown by caddy kicking 2 roving goals today. Maybe Gore or Blease may be ok in this role but Blease seems more of a runner and therefore will play more around HFF or wing.

Did he play as a small forward? To me he has shown the bonus of adding mids who can play forward rather than just FP's
Yeah good call. I even noticed him in at a centre bounce late in the game, so the coaches obviously believe that he can play in the midfield aswell.

Scotty likes the small forwards to work up the ground and then work back with the ball as it comes in to the forward line, so Gregson is well suited to the way that we like to play.

You still need a small forward who is at the feet of Clark (or whoever plays CHF) or at Tommy's feet. If they all run up the ground the only way we hurt the other side (re small forwards) is if we get over the opposition press and kick over the top into an open/empty forward line. You cannot do that so consistently and win games IMO.

Exactly!
The commentator said he reminds him of Wojak but Gregson's got midfield class in him. Wojak did too but he was more our wide receiver.

Gregson and McCarthy in the coming years, those two could seriously become a headache for opposing teams.
