Of course.

You do realise though that nicotine is a drug....right?

Please, compare the effects of cigarettes to the effects of heroin, cocaine, etc. Then come back and tell me drugs and smokes should be grouped together.

Short-term mental effects? Or the long-term health effects?

They're all evil when abused, but you're kidding yourself if you think nicotine isn't as bad as the others. Same with alcohol.

Anyway, we both agree that nicotine shouldn't be banned so i'm not sure what we're arguing about. (i was just pointing out that drugs and smokes are the same thing.)

John,

You think that everything is both immature and immoral!

Interesting? I wonder why!!

Interesting siggy as well. Tell me you're not the former Fitzroy player?

If you are you are one of the brave players to come and post here. There are some nutters around the place.

Suzi, I thought you hated the siggy's, that's what this thread was all about.:p
(Only kidding - what a silly pun that was.:p )

Thanks Suzi.:) :)

Im a ex smoker ( 1.5yrs )and it was very hard ----i mean very hard to give and i was not a heavy smoker except when on the sauce.

I reckon it was one of the best things i have done and now when i see smokers i sort of feel sorry for them.

The best thing about giving up is that my sense of smell has returned ----the money issue never really worried me.

I like smoking have tried to give it up cause it is so expensive, but know I never will because there is nothing better than a cup of coffee & a ciggie first thing in the morning, even better than the many you have while drinking.

A very good friend of mine and his girlfriend gave up about four months ago. A couple of years back he 'gave up' about eight times between New Year and Easter, since time they found an excellent book which gave great guidance and it seems to have worked.

One interesting thing he said to me after about a month was he suddenly realised what I meant when I was telling him how vile cigarette smoke smells. I put this to my boss (an occassional, not addicted smoker) and he confirmed that smokers do not find cigarette smoke unpleasant.

Personally I think smoking should be banned in all enclosed public spaces (pubs, restaurants etc) and also places of work. I've worked with, or close too, many people who have smoked to some extent or other. For some years it has been the policy of my employer to provide smoking rooms to take smoking away from the work areas. The idea is that when they go for a cigarette these people will either take work with them or do extra time each day. Guess what?

A couple of years ago one local Council in London brought in an alteration to their staff contracts saying that anyone using the smoking rooms had to work an extra 40 minutes each day on their set hours. The smokers complained about this 'infringement of their liberties.' I think they lost.

I have heard smokers complain that it is their right to indulge in their habit. Utter BS. If it is a habit then break it (quite easily done, how many people who claim they can't give up suddenly do so after being told by a doctor it's hat or they die?). Don't expect 'time off' to indulge in it.

I fully expect the 'Smoking Rooms' idea will soon be surpassed anyway and their will be no smoking in office workplaces.

Just a thought, but if it wasn't for us smokers paying exorbitant taxes on our habit, then the people out there on welfare & student allowances would be up s**t creek, at least nicotine addicts pay there way unlike addicts of other drugs like herioin, cocaine ecstasy etc, the uses of illegal drugs are a drain on society, like, robbery & many other crimes, sorry but putting up with a bit of smelly smoke I think is better than having your home being broken into to support someones habit, get a perspective people.

... and anyone using the internet has to stay back an extra four hours?

:D

I know one who couldn't, and he did die.

I know someone who smoked, and because of it he coughed his lungs up and died.

This is why i despise smoking.
