I don't think we'll get belted by Geelong, though I think we'll lose. Certainly not by 119 points or anything ridiculous. Probably around 5 goals.

Hard to tell. When games were on the line in the first half the last 2 weeks they have thoroughly demolished both teams but then taken it easy in the 2nd halves. Will do the same to St Kilda but midfield needs to improve to a 4 qtr performance to beat Geelong.
I reckon they're top 4 and flag certainties after two strong performances against quality opposition. I'm now off to write the headline for the back page tomorrow.

The thing is the Eagles actually have a) players with speed in defense and b) players who can also kick in defense.
They didn't have either for quite a few years.

We are missing Kerr and surprisingly Nicoski, so a mid capable of huge performances who otherwise did not impact and a suprisingly good defensive forward, capable of kicking 40 odd goals.
Solid outs.
Still we have gained a lot of rebound off the HBF, kick more midfield goals and seem to have greater flexibility.
I think we have the workings of a better team, it just needs to click.
As for our matches, pretty avg so far however two points. First NM managed a grand total of 2 goals v the bulldogs till 2.5 quarters in and second, our best football has been when the game was there to be won and after that have just coasted. These are both positives.
There is a flipside to that though. Either WC remain focused, or of the Saints/Geelong are going to provide a nasty surprise

Yep.
I think that is a big source of improvement though. Yeo and Ellis allow us to release HUrn, or if teams clamp down on Hurn we now have other options.
Midfield weapons have improved, especially over 2013, I can't see how anyone who has been paying even the most meagre attention could argue otherwise? But round 4 could be a massive system shock for us, approaching it with no small amount of dread.

Crucial component. Rosa's return to form and the new additions allow Gaff and Hurn some room to breathe. Before tagging assignments against West Coast were effectively automatic choices for opposing coaches.

Thought we were pretty ordinary today to be honest - a lot of panicked decisions and seemed outmuscled at a lot of stoppages. Does show how bloody ordinary Melbourne are though

Let's see how we play against the better sides - I'm not convinced yet.
I'm more interested though to see how we cope with injuries. That's the true test of a great side. Going by the past few years, as soon as we lose a couple of key players to injury, we're horrible.
