So I've changed my mind and am going with a PS3

Wasn't that always the case with MGS?

i don't know, as some people told me it was going to be an xbox360 title as well.

They'll probably port to 360 when sales fall well short of what's required to make any money off it.

If it's exclusive to the PS3 & they do port it over to the xbox360 imagine that they'll have a window (say maybe 12 months after it's been released on the PS3 & then release it on the xbox360 like some game companies have done before).

If you were introducing someone to a FPS for the first time, and gave them an option of a controller or a keyboard and mouse, the controller would win easily. The keyboard and mouse is pretty unco, and more difficult to learn. After years of using the keyboard for FPS initially it's difficult to adapt to the controller but it feels natural after a while. The two thumbstick system seems more precise.

I don't understand how you could say that controlling a cross-hair with a toggle or even two (x axis for one, y axis for the other toggle) could be easier than a mouse.

The X BOX did get MGS 2 substance about 2 years after original release, but thats it I think.... It didn't get Subsistence either (Pretty much just the games with a few extras)

SUBSTANCE

You do realise that one thumbstick controls the aiming x-axis and y-axis at the same time, like a mouse.

I got pretty bloody good at Timesplitters, and Goldeneye. A lot of the time with a mouse I overreact and aim past my target.

I read somewhere that the development costs of this game were such that they would need so sell 1 million copies on day one to cover costs. 2 PS3 games have made that figure in total lifetime sales.

Not going to happen.

Sony expects them to develop for other platforms as well.

Why do they need to sell 1 million copies on the first day in order to cover the costs of making it?

I would say it will eventually make the money back within the first month.

I guess 1 million sales on day 1 will give them a predictable sales pattern for the next 6 months that will eventually reach break-even point. They need to sell a lot more than 1 million total to recoup their investment.

They must be selling ok though, I went around yesterday looking to buy one but everyone was out of stock. I get it tomorrow and i also got a good deal. $687 with a free game and controller charger dock. The games to choose from were Resistance, Ridge racer, Motorstorm and f1. I choose Resistance.

Right there, at least that's how I read it. Is that not what you meant?

No, it's not, but I can see how you could take it that way.

Just meant that HD-DVD would have been my choice for the format if I were to replace my DVD collection, which I'm not anyway.

Ah ok, no problem.

You'd have a hard time replacing it with HD-DVD anyway, unless all your dvd's are Paramount and Universal.
