Thinking about our golden years from 2007 to 2011 and the players that we recruited(albeit earlier) and nurtured and who won all of those games and three premierships plus the Coaches it is time that many other clubs thanked us.
We now have, in no particular order, players and coaches at
  • Nth Melbourne-Ling
  • Adelaide-Milburn, Sanderson and now Pods
  • Port Adelaide-Hinkley
  • Gold Coast- Ablett
  • Melbourne -Byrnes
  • Essendon -Chapman,Thompson
  • GWS-Mumford
  • Bulldogs-Mooney and Scarlett
How good where we. Will we have ever have such talent in one team again.

I think scraps is the operative word here. Of those only Thompson and Carrazzo would have ever been regulars in our side and Thompson was never even on our list and Carrazzo was only ever a rookie. You can also throw in the likes of Playfair to Sydney, Thurley to North, Spriggs to Sydney, Davenport to Port, Stephenson to Richmond, Callan to Bulldogs, we never missed any of them.
 
That Prismall deal is looking absolutely amazing now, too.

I thought we'd lost a quality young player for far less than what he was worth, but by 2013, Prismall was gone and the guy we drafted with the pick we received in return had a brilliant year and looks like he could be a star for us.

Playfair to Sydney, Callan to the Dogs, Simpkin to the Hawks, Laidler to the Blues (until he got Malthoused) now Hunt to GWS. The rest of the comp very keen to capture small granules of Geelong standard, it seems only those who don't debut before delisting don't get another shot - except poor old Tenace, a top 10 Geelong pick shitcanned forever after 50-something games. Even Bedford got re-rookied by WCE after we ditched him!

Arguably the Geelong "era" extended to 2013. Clear 2nd after the H&A, and missed out on a GF berth by one kick. Still a damned potent force this year.

We all agree, I hope, but those fatal last Q fadeouts against several teams this year possibly mark the end of the indomitable force as we knew it from 07-2011. Losses against Pies, Lions, Crows and Hawks this year were a sign, maybe, of our variable situation.

So much depends on the health of our list, more so than at any stage during our era.

We probably will again in around sixty years.

2. early 1950s

I'll be happy enough to live to see Gazza the 3rd, and all our father sons from Mooney, Scarlo, Wojo et al.
60 years, count me out.
 
It's truly staggering to sit back and look at the impact that the 2007 Geelong side has had on the competition. From changes to the style of play, to former players becoming coaches, and former players becoming captains...

Totally agree, but the wider football public (i.e., non-Geelong supporters) probably won't acknowledge just how awesome the Cats were until we are down and out.

Some flogs (ie. the majority of Hawthorn fans) will still refuse to say we were a good side as we never went back to back.
 
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

All teams now play the run and carry type of game when they can. Our list of ex players and coaches around the league are and have been implementing their versions to their current charges.

The non believers can say what they want and believe whatever they want, but the influences are undeniable.
Watch the styles of play across the game and see who it looks like...
