The Tigers have won three of their past four games which their coach says is the result of having inner-belief.

“After the Hawthorn game our guys found a standard they were really happy with and they built on that. It’s amazing, belief in a footy club is such an important factor and confidence within a player is even more so,” he said.

“Our group at the moment is going well, we’ve still got a fair way to go but we’ve made some inroads, no doubt.”

Hardwick says there was no reason the Tigers had to spend a few more years at the bottom of the ladder before their re-emergence, pointing to the rapid rise of Fremantle as an example to aspire to.

“You’ve only got to look at Fremantle. Their personnel over the course of 12 months didn’t change that much but all of a sudden they’ve become a top four side,” he said.

“The belief in winning games and the momentum of winning games certainly propels you forward at a rapid rate.”
Found these comments reading the Cousins article on the RFC site. I think those on here who are pro bottoming out will find them interesting to say the least.

No one would expect him to come out and say "pick 4 is a priority for us so we will make sure we get the spoon". I would hardly take this as gospel in relation to the direction the club will take. Which ever way we go so be it. We will make the best out of what ever situation we find ourselves in.

Guess we were just missing out on a bit of belief in 2009 then when we were locked and loaded. No secret that confidence is important in sport.
Direction, game plan , and a coach that cared more about the team and club than himself would all have helped a bit last year as well.

Hardwick has always been a straight shooter when it comes to the press so I have no reason to believe that this was Hardwick just putting forward some empty words just to prove to the masses that we're doing everything we can to win games. I reckon Hardwick actually believes what he is saying here.

All he has done is regurgitate the old self-fulfilling prophecy that if you don't believe you can win, you can't win. I'm loosening my grip on the pro-tanking stance simply because the draft picks look like they drop off after 3, like last year, so the quality is about the same around picks 4-12. Losing the pp hurts though, it would have allowed us to move on another dud and given FJ an even better chance to kill the draft like he did last year.

You tell 'em Hardwick!

This isn't a one-off, as my sig shows. So glad we have a coach that knows a positive mentality beats tanking any day. Players winning games, smart drafting and being properly developed is the key to a successful era.

6 or 7 weeks ago on SEN a caller wondered why Dimma appeared so relaxed after we kept loosing games. Dermie had a chuckle, and said that anyone who knew him would also know as soon as he went behind closed doors he would be “Absolutely filthy, as he despises loosing under any circumstances." It’s amazing so far, posters are saying its just spin.

Not sure how much draft watching you've done this year Beaver, but I've been reading up on a few of the kids and speaking to a few draft watches they are of the opinion that we wouldn't be losing out that much by moving down from 4(which we currently hold) to say 6 or 8. Ben Jacobs is one that I'm really warming to if we are going to move down.

shame on dimma for being so ignorant. fremantle are coming from a top 4 position in 06. they only had to clean out the aged and a few of the poor kicks to add to the core they already had. where are we coming from again.

if he believes what he is saying then i for one am adamant hes not the man for the job and im one who has backed him in.

the belief has always been there.everyone at the club was saying this when losing, the belief in winning games and the momentum of winning games certainly propels you forward at a rapid rate very true but only if you have the cattle.
i wonder what sort of rating systems we have in place for these sort of comments to happen.

as for the players finding a standard sheesh some standard. so many ordinary performances by individuals so many weaknesses on display. surely he means they have found a way to compete against struggling sides at least.

the only bit he got right was. we still have a fair way to go but we have made some inroads. what a contradiction.

Here's their current best 22 based on games played this year:

Around in 06:
Sandilands
Pav
Mundy
Hayden (missed 9 games that year)
McPharlin
Crowley
Johnson
Bradley
Haselby (missed 9 games)
Duffield (missed 18 games)

Not exactly a star studded core. The reason they're so good this year is due to the following guys:

Debuted after 06:
Barlow
Mayne
Fyfe
Balintyne
Tarrant
Morabito
McPhee
Ibbotson
Hill
Broughton
Suban
Palmer

...i think this is the issue exactly...and needs to be further commented upon by other posters...what freo are currently doing has no relevance to where and what the tigers are trying to achieve now or next year...:thumbsu:...

Yep!!!
I know of 1 player for sure who would have asked to be traded at the end of last year if TW was still coach and another very important player that was considering the same thing if TW remained.
His ego was a true liability to us and it got worse as time went on.
He never loved the club.
Dimma has displayed more passion for the RFC in 8 months that TW did in about 6 years as a coach and a player

All year Dimma HAS spoken as he feels, I talk to him from time to time and he always speaks his mind. When he asked me what I thought of our draft picks, I replied with the first 4 look good and I was wrapped that we pinched Taylor off Collingwood, he replied that he was a good get. But all of our draftees are going to be good. Now unlike all of you I have due to employment issues been able to watch the growth of our old listed players and our drafts and I can tell you that he is right about our draftees. As for the rest of our guys Gus could not take a mark overhead and was not cofident in front of goals, both areas which you can all see has improved. Mitch told me at the start of the year that Jack would win our goalkicking and could win the Coleman. Dimma has faith in all of our players and he tells them what he thinks positive or negative.
Should we tank hell yeah , Hell NO! whatever we do I believe that Dimma and the rest of the guys will keep to the plan. The first 8 games were always going to be hard, But that Hawks game showed that we were on track. The plan 6 to 8 wins 10 if possible, so are we going to tank I dont think so, but if we do thats ok with me because I've seen what the future holds and once it comes together I wont need to its happenong the world will know Richmond rules and the rest are tools the tools we will use to create many victories.

It was an unsolicited comment. He didn't have to say anything on that particular subject at all, so why would there be a need to put forward spin?

LOL at the Claw - has questioned Dimma at every turn so far and once he realises Hardwick has a completely different philosophy to him , watch the real bagging start.
