Some positives...

The only drama I have at crystal balling based on ladder positions is that Brissy were last and winless until we played them into form.
So I kind of get the let's look at the good stuff vibe and then the Brissy anomaly smacks me in the chops and I say why bother looking past the next game.

No the 22 we have played through 10 rounds has been the oldest and most experienced in the competition.

I won't be giving us a pass mark unless we play finals due to us having an experienced team.
Also read a stat that shows we have one of the greatest deviations in the league also. Plenty in the 150+ bracket, but just as many in the 0-50 bracket

If we concede that we have been doing a rebuild of sorts since 2016 then we are tracking well. In under 3 years we have introduced 7 regular senior players of A grade or B grade quality. These are Mitchell, O'Meara, Sicily, Hardwick, Impey, Morrison and Burton. That is an average of more than 2 a year. Add the 8 or so young players developing their craft at Box Hill and the enormous salary cap space to be used at the end of the season and this rebuild is on track.

Yeah correct which means our list is in the middle of nowhere shambles type of state.

Or, in the right position for a rebuild.
It's pointless having only kids or mid range gamers in the side, as that means there's a lack of leadership to help them develop

I wouldn't have Harry as B yet, but is tracking there.

Burton is also a bit line-ball given his 2018 form.

Couple of points on that:
1. None of those mentioned is KPP
2. Harry is not B yet
3. Burton hasn’t been B this year as yet
4. Impey and Hardwick need more time to be solid B graders.
5. JOM hasn’t been A yet this year.
6. I’ll give you Mitchell and Siss as A graders but even then, both have limitations, Mitchell physically, Siss mentally.
7. Hopes that 8 players from Box Hill will push up to be either A or B are a bit of a stretch on current form. In fact, it’s impossible to nominate one potential star at Box Hill.
8. We are tracking as well as can be expected as a side that gets very late picks in the draft.

Agree 100%.

Any loss is bad because we are not used to the losing feeling. However, our losses to the $wines and eagles were not devastating, while our game against the lions was.
Our game against Port will tell me whether we sneak into the finals or finish 9-12. I am not confident, but, if we lose I expect we might see more of our youngsters, and that could bring us a top 10 draft pick; anyone remember what that could bring us.

We still have one big positive, and that's our coach, club, and staff, so maybe this year we will finish 12th again, and then it's up from there on.

What do you mean Burton's not even B grade? Was Buddy Franklin B grade after 1 season, or was he A grade? What is the point of grading players as A or B? It has no correlation to team success, it just drives me up the wall.

Don't understand your point. You grade players on their ability at a point in time.

History is littered with kids that showed something in their first few years and then did not make it.

Would you rather posters say, hey, he was a top ten draft pick so he is an A player, or he had a very good year as a 20 year old, but compared to the best in the league, is still a way off, but we will say he is an A grader?

If you could start with Cousins, Kerr and Judd in the midfield, had Rance, Scarlett and Enright down back, with Franklin, Nick Riewoldt and Rioli up forward, with no C/D level players, you'd be well on your way....

Three points:

1. What I was alluding to in my previous post is that we are grading Burton on form over 10 games. If we graded him last year we might even have rated him A grade, he was widely regarded as the best U20 player in the comp. Now suddenly he's 'not even B grade'. In my mind a player is either of a certain quality or they are not. If A-grade player is defined as 'players who are capable of top quality football', then the list includes most of the best 22 players in the league currently. Burton has shown enough for me to know that he's a quality player. It's now only a question of form, fitness and his role in the team.

2. Secondly, having A-grade players on your list does not simply equal premierships. Collingwood, Swans, Giants haven't won a premiership in the last 6 years, which is staggering considering Brownlow polling, AFL ratings and a multitude of other 'awards' over that time.

3. If anyone thinks we don't have enough talent on our list currently they are kidding themselves. KPD depth is shallow and we need to draft well this year, certainly - but we have everything we need to be a top four side right now.

If we have the talent to be a top four team, why haven't we been for over 2 years?

We apparently have one of the best coaches in the business, our injury run has not been too bad and our draw not too bad either. Is the gameplan wrong, are the players not motivated...???

what has happen to this team since the win against the bombers?

lost all confidence after the swans game and now can't recover.

Gameplan and players perhaps not comfortable in their position... but players getting to know each other, the group 'clicking' together as Clarko says.

Sounds like small things, but they make all the difference. Means they can change quickly.

Positives for the Hawks

1. we have a core of great players - Rioli, McEvoy, Breust, Gunston, Smith, Stratton, Puopolo, Mitchell, Impey, O'Meara, Ceglar, Sicily, Burton, Hardwick, Howe, Morrison and Worpel (these 17 players are our future)

2. we have a great coach, the problem is we have lost a lot of supporting coaches for Clarko which were good to cover his weaknesses

3. we have a great President and admin running the club smoothly atm

4. our gameplan still relies on turn overs to score and on using our fitness to get free and move forward with uncntested football due to having a better fitness base also on pressure football to deny and give us turnover scoring opportunities, this is a positive, but our scoring is the only negative, because our forwards arent doing their jobs as well as they should but also because we're bombing the ball inside 50 way too often for my liking and thats hurting our scoreboard

5. we have some unknown talent that is developing on our list - Glass, Cousins, Lewis, Mirra, Pittonet, Moore, Ross, Nash and maybe Hanrahan (9 players)

a negative

a problem we have is Roughead, Birchall, Burgoyne, Frawley and Shiels either being injured, out of form consistantly or just past their prime.....BIG PROBLEM
