There are 2 simple things which have been a weakness in recent memory.

1) Poor tackling
2) Giving away stupid frees

Blows my mind that the players and coaches can let this continue year on year.

So many tackles the Hawks players just shimmy’s a hip and goes by a falling Swan, was pathetic

Maybe Ladhams still wasn't 100% right for this game, but if he was it was a huge mistake not picking him to play last night over a clearly underdone Grundy. We must pick fit players. Hamling must play in defence now.

I’d have expected to at least be able to say wow they bashed in, tackled hard, brutal in the contest, even if we lost.

I think what struck me was the overall lack of intensity. Very few gut busting efforts, hard tackling, crashing of packs etc. You would think after the embarrassment of the GF, followed by a preseason to stew, the boys would've been chomping at the bit to go and destroy whoever was the unfortunate opponent. Instead, it was all a bit limp. Very disappointing.

A horrible 6 months since the GF and they produce that! JL should have gone earlier and we may have kept Parker who is better than half of them! They effectively recruit nobody. Bad players like Haywood signed for 5 years. Then Gulden goes down Mills and McDonald can’t get up and Rampe Adams and Grundy look cooked. Big task to recover enthusiasm from here!

I think we really overcomplicate the issues on this board.

The main problem is the same problem every year. We can't win the ball in the middle of the ground. Nothing was ever done about it under Longmire, and there were no signs last night that anything will be any different this year.

It's a personnel issue, it's not a game style or coaching issue.

Rampe should get a copy of the VFL fixture he will be down there soon I suspect unfortunately.

When is McDonald back? , McLean or Hamling in?

Cox will keep Mccartin forward for now I suspect, but the defence looks shaky

True. But quite a few of the things I seen from him would be open to a grilling from any coach in a post-game review. He was the direct result of a few goals for Hawks and I think he'll be lucky to stay in the team, but we'll see next week.

Agreed. We should’ve stopped whining to the umpires about their horrible calls and just start flopping around and pretending to be hit high like the Hawks were. They milked the calls way better than us and that was a big factor.
