Game Day Swans (well, some of them) vs Suns (Preseason)

Bullshit. Did a lot. You just didn't notice. Forwards are not always going to be stars. Amartey wasn't tonight because they had three players on him after half time. What's more, we went Reserves after half time. It took a while for the cohesion to happen. It wasn't until the last that our players got their shit together

100% a metre either way and he suddenly has 2 goals his goal assist.

Agreed. Didn't get the chocolates like he did last week but had some really important touches.

Is it possible for a pre-season game to be the best Swans win I have seen?

That was just gutsy AF, with so many quality plays.

Gold Coast were shite.

Everyone impressive bar Hayward, Sheldrick & McInerney for mine.
Reading the stats I'm surprised you say Sheldrick was unimpressive. He was our only mid who did much in terms of clearances. Hayward and McInerney stats poor.

Sheldrick just didn't feel effective at all. Everything seemed like a handpass to nobody, a blind kick to nothing, a rushed soccer kick out of hope.

The clearances that mattered seemed to all be done by Ladhams, Jordon & Rowbottom (as well as a cameo or two from Green, which was pleasing.)

Agree about McInerney though. "McInerney had it, lost it" was said by Dwayne Russell at one point. I feel like that could be copied and pasted every time McInerney wins it at the coalface.

Minus the Errol shenanigans really enjoyed hat hitout.

Paton - fits in like a glove. Plays taller than he looks too. Actually looks taller than I thought tbh.

Wicks - impressive, could be a game changer and good foil for Blakey breaking out of defence, releasing Florent too.

Bice - Nice. Nothing extraordinary but looks reliable

Riak - Cool as ice, didn't look like his first game. Reads the play well. He'll retire, not get delisted.

Francis - Say what you want but he's a cool headed defender that would be best 22 anywhere. Top game.

Mitchell - Sporadic. At times sloppy.

Kirk - Not athletically gifted but he battled, it's in the genes. Not convinced he'll make it but he's got the right attitude

Green - Very Green. But coming along nicely

Ladhams - Comfortable back up ruckman. And good enough to take the reigns when Grundy is done.

JJ and Rowbum - Elite.

Roberts - Elite.

Sheldrick - Better 2nd half. He's slow when the ball isn't in his direct vicinity. Solid in tight but oppo always on his tail causing him to be a bit of a dump kick merchant. Could have a role to play racking up CPs but he's not going to displace any of our starting mids let alone JJ. Not sure what way this goes. As Ceasar mentioned he just didn't look effective despite the stats making it look so.

Warner - He's ok but there's something missing. I'm just not convinced. Still lacking a bit of toughness and thinks his job is done when ball in hand. Not a great decision maker and I feel his disposal doesn't gel with our way of playing, just kicks to the first contest he sees, and at times dumps to no one. There are so many tonight that I'd pick ahead of him.

Hanily - I like him alot. Great in tight, strong, quick, sticks tackles and excellent disposal by foot and hand. He is our next best small forward/high HF small by a margin.

Mccartin - He's an old school full forward. All of a sudden it feels like we've got one who can match the strongest FFs in the game. Absolute game changer. I'm sold.

Hamling - Did some nice things. Wouldn't be disappointed if we needed to call on his services.

Hanily and Wicks really impressed.

Liked the look of Andrew, Green and Bice.

Paton will come in handy once fully up to speed with our game plan and TMAC up forward gives us another dimension.

Corey Warner has almost played himself out of Round One.

Think Sheldrick and Adams will both now play Round One.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Wicks the forward.

But I see encouraging signs in Wicks the defender.

It might be Cox’s first really shrewd move.

I wonder how long it will take Cox to go grey or lose his hair seemed stressed in the box already lmao
I saw him smile a couple of times. More than I saw Longmire do all those years!

I wonder who will be his sounding board in the box that he can yell at like Longmire did to him?

Not to lay the boot in, but I can't remember one good thing Sheldrick did. He wasn't horrific, but I saw nothing to instill any confidence.

Edit: I'll be fair. Laid a ripper tackle on Rowell.
Crap. He laid 8 tackles. He also did a lot of inside stuff that most people, people like you who are out riders, don't notice. He was in the guts like Rowie and between him, Rowie and Jordan we got a win.

Gulden out (along with Mills) sucks but weirdly I feel like the fact that it will force us to give more players looks in the midfield will be a good thing long-term. Good to have options when an opposition midfield gets on top.
