JR (aka Jack Jack) has just burst onto the big stage. But a lot of us saw it coming. And every contender needs a few special talents (at least) to win the big one is September.

So how many more do you reckon we've got?

Here's my quick list:

1. Cotch and the Dustman. These two both have star quality written all over them and make a very effective midfield duo. Different syles, but same effect. We get the ball. (Add some Tuck/Jackson/Foley style grunt and it's party time.)

2. Astbury and Nason. Composure and guts equals class. There's so much to like about the debuts of these two young 'uns it's hard to kjnow where to start;

3. Edwards and Connors. A couple of sublime talents almost lost in the Wallace fiasco. Skill, courage and a building focus.

3. Griffiths,Taylor, Roberts or Morton. This is the potential area. At least one of these has to stand up for us to become contenders. I'm hoping that its all four of course. And don't write off Morton yet. He has real talent.

Andy Collins , by the end of the year he will have stamped himself in the first 11 and by the end of 2011 he will have stamped himself as a big game player. The kind of player that lives for the contest , the block busters and finals.

Andy is destined to play 300 games , be a 7 time all Australian and be a 4 time premiership player with the Tigers. One of those flags he will be Captain coach.

Tomorrow night Andy will kick 3 or 4 goals , you heard it here first.

Er, I think Brett Deledio might figure in out next tilt at a flag, as will Foley.

Really impressed with Angus Grahams last couple of games. If he can play consistant footy add him to the list.

Tyrone could be a star, I'm calling it now!!;) I've seen him do some special things in traffic and he's a very smart player. Just like Jack it starts with a few impressive plays. He's mobile and athletic, plays like a midfielder and tackles hard, he's not a giant, but his mobility will make him a huge asset as moving zones become faster. :)

The signs are good, we just need patience with him, and he needs to find his aggression.

Im with Greggy. The Big Vic is my pick. And Nason, given time (not to far away) will spend more time in the midfield.

Dunno whether he's 'something special' but really like Astbury's composure and sure hands. Bit more beef and experience and I reckon we've got ourselves a very handy player.

As far as really deserving the "special" tag, we've only got JR, Dusty, Cotch and Lids so far. There are others who are or will be good players and some who might become "special" but it's really just those four at the moment. Hopefully Vickery, Griffiths and Taylor will reach that level in the next few years.

Apologies for not mentioning Lids in the OP. (Too many pre-match drinks.)

Also agree with the comments about Vickery. He has the happy knack of doing the right thing at critical moments.

Of the players yet to debut, Hicks and the Goo seem to get the most love (although there are a few Contin fans as well). Is anyone who has seen them play prepared to say they have the X factor?

'X-factor' is hard to define but they've both certainly got special attributes. Hicks can get 5 touches for 5 goals. He makes the most out of every kick, either hitting a target or kicking a goal. The downside is he makes Robbie Nahas look like Ronnie Coleman.

The Goo is a ridiculous aerialist, though you don't see it much when he plays in defence, where he's a lot dourer. He's got a bigger leap than Naitanui and better legspeed. If we played him down forward he'd probably take mark of the century.

He sounds like a perfect swingman. But we should keep him in defence atlest for this year.

Ben Nason, this kid has talent. With a bit of weight to add to his frame, he will develop into a good player. He looks like he will be something special, just the way he goes about it.

Thanks Spluff. Looking forward to seeing them both get a go. I gather the Goo is regarded as a cert for a start this season. What's the betting on Hicks (or Contin for that matter)?
