Nomming 10 different songs, splitting the contestants up into pools etc.
The only time a theme has deviated from the structure is a Wonka round where multiple billies and your 15 votes can be allocated to however you want. It was still one nom per contestant, and even that round has an asterisk. We've had some double-nom themes (same title, different song and album openers) but no more than that, and they only had a minor tweak to them. 10 songs is ridiculous, surely you can agree there? This theme is like getting The Long and Winding Road (originally a mellow, laid-back tune) and producing the shit out of it by adding an orchestra and backing choir that wasn't needed.
What if I want to nominate 10 songs? Does that still make it ridiculous?
If you want a narrowly defined song contest, then put together the precedents we've established over the years into writing and add them to the rules, in a separate section if need be. That way you don't have this happen again, rather than every time a host breaks the mould people throw their hands up in the air because they want tradition.
