Sony changing PlayStation Network name to 'Sony Entertainment Network' (SEN)

Sony are sending out the following email:

"Dear <username>

On February 8, 2012, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account” or a “SEN account” in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation®3 system software and PlayStation®Vita system software updates. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system at this time.)

For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network.” This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition.

Sincerely,
The Sony Entertainment Network Team"

PSN Maintenance Has Broken Some User Download Lists

Update: It seems that this isn’t affecting just PlayStation Plus members. The problem seems to be far more widespread.

It seems that the most recent maintenance has caused a problem for some users of the PlayStation Network in Europe. Both the user’s download list and transaction lists are empty, making it impossible for them to redownload purchased content.

It seems to only be affecting PlayStation Plus members at this time. The users who are affected also cannot download anything from the store and are given Error #80023102 when trying to do so.

Sony is aware of the problem and are working to fix it. “This is an issue we are aware of following the PSN maintenance last night. We are currently working on a fix, there should be nothing you have to do your end so please bear with us and I will update this thread as soon as its sorted,” said a community manager on the EU PlayStation Forums. “For those of you worried about losing content I can assure you that this is not the case. Your download lists and purchase history have not been affected, the problem is the ability to access them from your console,” he later added.

As of now there is no fix in place.

Re: Sonys Continual Failure

Have never understood the war between Xbox fans and Playstation fans to be perfectly honest. It's worse than the Mac Vs PC arguments or to put it in BigFooty terms, it's comparable to the Adelaide Vs Port Bay 13 arguments. No one really gives a toss but they keep at it anyway.

I'd rather get the 10-15 minutes put into actually gaming on the platforms that I own rather than sledging the ones that I don't care for.

Saw who created the thread, instantly knew it would be shit.

And the winner of the most useless thread ever created goes to Kerrby.

Re: Sonys Continual Failure

I agree with Kerrby, Sony on the whole is a corporate dinosaur (not so much it's playstation department). A bit like how PC gaming is a dinosaur.

A corporate dinosaur in comparison to who or what?

Re: Sonys Continual Failure

Considering that they have almost a zero market in Japan, the 360 has done extremely well this generation. If you take the Japanese and European (strong Sony territory) numbers out of the equation the 360 has outsold the PS3 by about 15 million in North America.

If MS begin to make a dent into the Japan market next gen things could go from bad to worse for Sony especially with the Vita underperfoming sales wise.

Difference with Kerrby is he owns a PS3, he seems to be like reformed smoker. Once of the platform he is dead against it.

You could make the argument that if Sony get on top in NA then its real trouble for Microsoft, considering every other major market (inc here) has PS3 on top.

Re: Sonys Continual Failure

People constantly talk about next gen. If the rumors of Sony not releasing a next gen console but rather something altogether different, and I tend to believe with this SEN initiative that it is a clear signal that they are going that way, Microsoft while on top with a "next gen" model coming out could find themselves beaten by a radical development in the industry.

I'm pro-360 (when I realized I needed a gaming console I didn't think twice and went for the 360) and have been for many years but having studied the future of technology at uni level (which surprisingly has very current source material and heavy discussion among lecturers, tutors and students) has made me rethink the way I view things.

Will be very interested to see what Sony has planned. It's going to be something radical - how radical who knows? They are definitely thinking of the bigger picture in terms of smart TVs. How about an all-in-one unit - a smart television that enables the use of games and mass media (video, gaming, video conferencing, etc, etc.)? Before you suggest that it couldn't be done I'd think again. The next generation is quite possibly not a standalone console but the television unit itself.

Great idea in theory but how bloody expensive would it be!

If they only want the rich to buy it yeah. Look at the price when the PS3 first came out....Nobody is gonna pay for that again, plus a Smart TV in one. Im happy with my TV, I dont need a smart one, why should I be forced to spend thousands for everything when I just want the console. Really dont see it happening.

A bit like how PC gaming is a dinosaur.

No, get it right - you only say that in the 12 months after a new console release. Right about now you should be saying that PC gaming does perhaps fill a small niche that might just save it after all.
