...but I've never really listened to 'The Doors' before, and after just a few songs I'm certainly a fan. Brilliant, Genius are just some words that spring to mind when describing them. If only Jim was with for just a bit longer.

Anywho they now join 'The Coral' and 'Dungen' as one of my favourite Psych Rock bands.

Before you get carried away with old Jimbo and the boys have a listen to Morrison Hostel by TISM on the album Great Trucking songs of the Renaissance, puts it into perspective. Not saying I don't enjoy the Doors music and lyrics but the way people carry on about them is a bit over the top IMO.

Morrison had one of the most charismatic and rich singing voices in modern music.

For their style of music nobody had a better keyboardist either.

The Doors deserve to be up there as one of the great bands of their era.

Agree.

Then again,I don't mind the Richmond cheer squad either.

They're a band I've only recently discovered as well. They've become WELL entrenched in my top 5 bands.

I've now got 5 of their albums,

L. A. Woman
Strange Days
Waiting for the Sun
Morrison Hotel
The Doors

I'm discovering more and more great songs of theirs on each listen.

Don't get stuck on the singles, there are heaps of brilliant tracks.

And "You'll never get out of here alive" The Jim Morrison Biography is a brilliant read.

Go and get "Apochlypse Now" on DVD ... put it into the best home theatre system you can find .. turn the Vol up to "11" .... and just watch the Slo-Mo opener as the Hellicopters drop the Napalm as the Doors .."The End" plays out .

The greatest use of music in cinema in history

Terrific terrific band.

Roadhouse Blues and 5 to 1 are songs entrenched in my top 50.

Well i'm consistent. I've said in another thread that i only care what the end result sounds like, not individual talents within a band. I'm not a huge fan of plagiarism either, so the doors don't really do it for me.

yep, i'll give you that! i've got to admit i thought the movie was shithouse and vastly overrated though.

Who did they plagiaris?

There was a controversy with the release of the "Hello, I Love You" single in 1968, when the rock press pointed out the song's musical resemblance to The Kinks' 1965 hit "All Day and All of the Night". Members of the Kinks have concurred with music critics: Kinks guitarist Dave Davies has been known to add snippets of "Hello, I Love You" during solo live performances of "All Day and All of the Night" as a sarcastic commentary on the subject

I can vaguely hear it, but it's not a very strong link.

You must have trouble finding something to listen to then considering every band on the planet just about has ripped something from someone at some stage.
