This is going to sound idiotic, but who do you think has soul in the league? This is something my brother and I used to discuss way back, and the criteria was (is) all over the shop, but some players just play or carry themselves in a different way from the flock and you think "dude's got soul".

some soul men of the past...

Parish
Sabonis
Kareem
Dumars
Manute (RIP)

Current...

Nash
Duncan
S.Curry (from the smidgeons I've seen & read)
Pau
D. Williams
and even Ron-Ron (bizarre flaky (different to Rodman) and balls out play)

Coaches...
Doc

It all seems pretty random and your knowledge/access would far outweigh mine, but share some of your thoughts...

I consider Ray Allen to be a pretty wondeful human being.

Absolute class act has Ray been over his career.

Brian Scalabrine also fits inot that nice guy mould. Poor guy hardly ever gets a run but he's the msot enthusiastic, supportive team mate no matter what.

Great games all, but the first two carried themselves like "dey be in da hood"...bit of the n!gga mentality, no soul in that. Stockton? Wore footy shorts as baggies were becoming vogue (tick), one of the best games controlled by gravity (no leap, great passer) (tick), but allegedly a cheap shot maestro (minus soul points). Smith? didn't see enough of him (he spent a lot of time injured, right?) - better judges than me may assess his suitability. What about Ron-Ron you might say? there seems to be something real about the guy, that he is genuinely a screw loose.

Great call on Vlade whoever made the call earlier. Thurl Bailey? Did he wear the big-arse goggles? Definite soul there.

but t hardaway and payton both had soul in their game. they werent the typical boys in the hood type. they spoke differently and had strange accents

steve smith especially cause he has a very "utahian name" but is black

chris webber got soul. well he kinda does. when he was traded to sactown he complained about a lack of soul food

David Robinson?

or am I mistaking soul for class?

Class for sure... not so much soul imo.

Maybe to his detriment at times too.. I'm thinking of when Hakeem punished him in the Playoffs after Robinson was named MVP. (95 I think?)

All the Admiral could do after each game was say how amazing Hakeem was. lol

Maybe too "Gentlemanly" for his own good... :)
