Althoe Mcguane was good, his kicking seems to need alot of work. He couldnt hit most of his targets. Does anyone know if hes working on this? or he was just having a bad night? Other then that his handballs, marking etc were good. I had a laugh when one of the commentators said "Terry Wallace will be sending out a message not to let Mcguane get it of halfback"

his kicking is generally pretty bad. He's aware of it and openly admits it. He'll keep working hard at it, he has to if he wants to make it long term. Other than that I have no beef, I am a fan

Not a hell of alot worse than many other raw backman that have come through and still managed a good career.

Of course he'd be working on it. He should be fine, he'll just become a backman in the Presti mold of doing.

naaa dude, Luke has the speed and mongrel to be better than this dude. You know how we have always lacked an enforcer? well we have our future enforcer. The "kid" is fearless in his attack on the ball and he is fearless when it comes to what is going to happen to his opponent with that attack. Rare breed, something that a Simmo lacks. He is to nice, and worries about breaking heads. ;)

agreed, there were two clangers, however technically he is a sound kick, he'll be alright

Does anybody know how many ineffective kicks he actually had???

I can think of 2 poor kicks with little pressure and 1 with a lot of presure. It seems to me to many people are listening to whats being said in the commentary box and not watching the game enough.

I am with Cogga on this one...and as MT06 mentioned in the Thursty thread, put another couple of seasons of protein shakes and massive sessions in the gym, and McGuane will be having a much bigger 'impact' in defence. He won't be the run out defence type anyway....spoil (hurt), gather, dish off....mid..forward entry..

far better he has good decision making and can hit targets with both HANDS with speed and accuracy IMO.

Honestly I haven't noticed Mcguane being a bad kick. If he was that bad I would have noticed. Why do people come up with threads and judge a player on a couple of kicks. His kicking seems fine. He doesn't have a great kick like Chris Newman, but that doesn't make him a poor kick. He's a better kick than Raines I'll tell you that. If someone asked me what his major weakness were, kicking wouldn't have even entered my mind.

I suggest most of you watch him closely, his kicking definitely needs work especially when hes being rushed. But hes nowhere near gasper-or-D.kellawayesque thank f.cuk for that :p

You must be kidding. Raines is a way better kick than Mcguane

I think MT is referring to kicking under pressure...Rainsy is continually kicking long to 2 on 1 options and turning it over with bad decision making with 'where' he kicks it, rather than the actual accuracy.

So yes, he has a very good textbook action, great on the run, hitting targets short and long, it is just under pressure, he has brain collapses. However, sometimes it is the lazy efforts of others not pushing to create options for him. Still learning under pressure which shows also when he dishes off to someone STANDING next to him in the close in contests.

Agreed, his technique isn't perfect, but it's nowhere near as bad as those 2. His technique is good enough that you can see the potential for him to become at least a decent kick.

McGuane's a bit like a smaller version of Hall in many ways, though he's nowhere near as clumsy looking.

Capable of the odd shocking ugly turnover, but wins more than his share back again. If you're a good team you can easily carry that.

I thought Newman kicked as badly - again.
