Just got this through on email:

ANZAC commemoration event

In commemoration of ANZAC Day we will be holding a ‘card flip’ inside the stadium, live across Australia at 7:02pm at this Saturday’s game.

By being part of this special event, you will be assisting us in observing the centenary of the Gallipoli landing and spelling 'Lest We Forget' along the lower Eastern Stand at the Adelaide Oval by holding up an A2 card. The card will be on your seat upon arrival with instructions attached.

You are receiving this email because you are one of our members who has a reserved seat in the lower eastern stand.

We’re excited to have you be a part of this special moment to commemorate the ANZAC centenary and pay tribute to those men and women who have served our country.

If you can’t make the game, remember to give your membership ticket to a friend or family member so they can help make this a special moment for our supporters, and viewers around the country to share.

And don’t forget to be in your seat by 6:50pm so you can see the team run-out!

Game information
Port Adelaide v Hawthorn
Saturday 25 April @ 7.10pm

You don't know if you like that you've been asked to show some small token of appreciation to the men and women who have died in service to the country by holding up a card that reflects a message that the 50,000+ people who will be attending will echo with their silence?

Stop it Port Adelaide! Geez we're incredible! These look amazing when done properly in overseas soccer.

Genius idea, don't think it's been done before in AFL? And for a very good reason. Nice touch from the club.

I respect that by removing my beanie, lowering my head and reflecting during the minutes silence.

I don't know if it seems gimmicky or not, that's all.

I honestly think it's a great notion to the diggers that we are remembering, those that have survived - some of them will be on the field, and if they look at that, it will fill them with pride! If I was sitting there, I'd be more than happy to do my part and show respect in this small way!

But I can see your point in the whole "Could it be Gimmicky" - All in all, I think we as the Port Adelaide Supporters will give everything a go atleast once, if it works - like NTUA - we'll run with it. But being as it is ANZAC Day, a special day, these kinds of things are just monumental and show a massive amount respect.

I've received the same email and I'm honoured to contribute in this small way.

I'm stoked that I'll be sharing this experience with some of my family and best mates as well as those who sit in the same section - some of whom have become more than acquaintances. The freedom that enables such shared experiences that those of whom we are remembering fought for.

I dont know if I like this or not.

But can some people in the Western Stand take photo's because all I'll see is the back of a card
You probably will hold the card up to just below your eyeline.

Just consider yourself a representative of the club on this occasion - this is something that PAFC wants to say as a collective entity rather than as individuals. It's a small token, but will send a powerful message.

I'd be honored to be part of it if I was asked.

Lets just hope it works. If quite a few people are missing from their seats as they normally are before the bounce, it could end up looking very patchy. I like the idea, but as badbeats said i'd rather be standing and reflecting on my grandfathers, arms crossed in front. Not holding up a card. It all depends when it fits in and for how long.

I would say it will happen straight after the minute silence, when the announcer says "Lest We Forget" and the final stanza of the Last Post plays. That's when I'd do it - pay your respects first.

Many thanks to those in the crowd at the Oval who will hold up a flipped card, and have something to point at for the rest of their lives and say: "I was there."

I'm thinking of the Simpsons episode where Homer dreams about flying over the Superbowl in the Duff blimp and there is one guy with his card facing the wrong way when making a picture of Homer's face.

If someone can find a picture of that they win one free internet.

I got to see one of these only last week in the FA Cup semi final as my mighty Aston Villa knocked off Liverpool to book a spot in the final
