It’s mind blowing that he’s going back to soccer where players go down bawling their eyes out with a broken ankle that fresh air creates
As opposed to tough guys like Rozee and Ginnivan who roll around like they've been shot whenever someone brushes against them?

I think McHenry was pretty upfront in his comments there.

He respects Burgess and the body of work he has under his belt, but he is correct to say that it's strange, and unique across the league, that someone in his position could come and nominate their own replacement.
Strange but not completely unusual. I don't think Burgess would've straight up appointed his replacement, but it makes sense for him to recommend a former associate knowing that they probably run similar programs and theories. Ultimately if the AFC didn't want this guy they would've had the final say.

I guess given Burgo was leaving with potentially short notice, he probably felt more of an obligation to suggest an alternative rather than leave us high and dry. Kind of like a builder suggesting his painter mate that will slot you in tomorrow. The recommendation is there but it's ultimately your call.

Different also when someone is wanted, advise on the design of our new training facility and are poached by a major international sporting organisation

vs most who get fired or move to an AFL rival

Sounds like we are putting a lot of work into Ryley and have been for awhile. Watch this space though as Port will have more ammo to throw the dogs way next year than we do and they usually have a strong track record of throwing their hat into the ring for everyone we try and recruit.

Bailey will stay. Usually players who move in FA have rumours swirl about interest in moving home years in advance. Never ever heard Bailey and wanting a move back to SA mentioned once. Brisbane will certainly keep in unless he chooses the merc option and gets godfather offers he cant refuse.

Port will lose all thier collateral in matching a bid for Doug Cochrane

See my response above. It was Rowe who found the replacement methodology unusual, not Ned. ....and it's not.

I don't think it to be strange .....if Burgess was regarded highly enough to consult on the setup of the new sports science area .....it stands to reason, given his broad network of colleagues, to consult Burgess on his replacement
