Soligo has basically been the same player for two seasons now, not sure if he has any growth left in him

Curtin’s probably our best chance

I don't see either Rankine or Rachele as September midfielders. I see them as excellent forward half players.

Why target another small forward, in the hope Rankine or Rachele turn in to proper mids?

Just get a proper mid.

I wonder how much Darren Burgess leaving had to do with the decision?

I can see why the Crows may have pulled out. Our first attempt to gain Gibbs was a long process that may have been better spent on other trades and contracts.
No matter what you may think about the [PLAYERCARD]Jarryd Lyons[/PLAYERCARD] trade at the time, (Lyons, 24, and pick No.71 for picks 43 and 67) it was a debacle that may have been avoided had we not taken our eye off the ball.

I think we would have been banging our heads against a wall with Melbourne. Now that is Gold Coast's problem.

That was a sliding door moment for me.

Gold Coast gave pick 7 away as a salary dump while we traded them pick 5. Surely, surely there was a way for us to take a salary dump player and gotten Rankine for free.

That salary dump stunk way too much. It was $900k? Surely second round pick would have had clubs lining up. But of course Geelong get the deal and then immediately rewrite the contract causing AFL to change the rules (for other clubs in the future of course)

I disagree, both Rankine and Rachele are very capable of extended midfield minutes especially with Ah Chee coming in who is much more a marking medium forward than a defensive crumbling forward. Of course we need a top end mid but we could also do with a high pressure speedy crumbling small forward as well.

Salary cap is an illusion for the nepo-babies. Trac will be on league minimum with a $1.1m contract as a nutrition consultant for cooking the boys a 10 minute stirfry once a week.
