I’d assume NM would give us their own 2nd for Butts?

Unless that 2nd is getting re-routed, I agree it feels pointless

We’ve barely touched the draft the last couple of years. Trading in B&C graders isn’t going to work, we still need to hit the draft and unearth high end talent.

He's worthy of a starting 22 spot and not getting it ahead of Murray and Keane.

Obviously would be great to have that depth, but he'd want to play each week.

He might be happy to be backup, but we don’t get to pay backup money if he’s being offered a best 22 contract elsewhere. At a minimum, he’ll be in for a big pay rise.

North Melbourne have tabled a 3 year lucrative deal to Jordon Butts , fair chance he is out the door sadly
This is good, we need to sell high and for a back up defender it's too good an opportunity.

Of course we want a first rounder, but we also need a second rounder if we are to trade our first rounder for a good player like Bailey if we make a play, or we might do a 3 way trade of Butts for Ah Chee.

Not really sure why anyone would want to do that for their short career, if they were good enough to play in the A's, but maybe it happens that way.

Why would Walsh be on the table? Next captain you'd think.
There was talk both of him being dissatisfied with the direction of the club / handling of his injuries, and whether Carlton would be better off trading their stars (of which he was one) and rebuilding

But if we ship Jordan out, who is the back up if Murray, Worrell or Keane goes down injured or gets suspended? I agree that we should take our 1st to the draft if a quality player is not there to trade for, but after that, surely with where we are at now, ready made players are worth a lot more to us than speculative draft picks?

Definitely agree, but there’ll be the odd one that just wants to stay. Lyons a good example, but certainly they’re rare. I think it’s possibly to knock back best 22 but not best 22 and contract value.

Realistically it would then be Borlase. I would argue we could pick up another cheap KPD (there was one just delisted by Richmond.....?) and get a Powell or Bailey in the trade which would address a need in our best 22

Disagree.

North are desperate and Butts has shown he’s a very good KPD, plus he’s under contract.
At some point the AFL are going to have to step in and stop North trading away all their first round picks for magic beans though

There's no way a player that isn't best 22 is getting us a first round pick
I’m not talking a top 10 pick, a pick in the 15-25 mark is fair.

He was first choice until he got injured, the fact he’s not playing is more about Nicks than Butts.

Besides if we aren’t getting overs, why would we let him go?

If he was a first choice player for us, we might have gotten that. But he isn't, so we won't.

I don't reckon we should let him go for what we would get in return

Agree with the 2nd sentence. I wouldnt even worrying about draft picks, they arent really what we need. They have plenty of mids, we need some more, lets have one of those, like Powell. If not then we keep him, simple.
