So out last two flags we have then played our next grand final against the team we beat and had the tables turned.

My question because i am board waiting for a seminar to start is if you knew you would split 05/06 with the eagles and 12/14 with the hawks would you rather win the second time round?

Only asking because a few hawks fans this morning are telling me they corrected the wrong, and fixed up 2012.

Didnt think it worked that way

I'm sure that shortly after 06 I would have preferred to have won the second one but I've never really thought about it to be honest. Just seems like a stalemate looking back on it.

Both sets of fans got to enjoy something great.

They didn't correct a wrong.

Simple projection to get over a trauma or loss in the emotional sense of the word.

It is simply another way to diminish the 2012 hurt in their eyes and the win in ours.

It is also the usual tactic of saying 2014 is a better win than 2012. It isn't. Nor is it any better or worse than any other GF ever - in any sport. It is what it is.

Put bluntly a GF win is a GF win. A loss is a loss.

Nothing takes away the win and nothing eases the loss unless you really need justification for actions you cannot control or feel you are entitled to it in some way past the normal.

Considering there was a while there where I and other members of my family thought we'd never see us win one I couldn't give two shits. Having said that, I'm not sure if we should be demanding the '06 cup from the drug addled campaigners or embarrassed we got beaten by a team swimming up to their eyeballs with substances that aren't necessarily recognised as performance enhancers.

Raally annoyed an Eagles fan after the 06 GF. He came up to me puffing his chest out post match trying to rub it all in. I simply congratulated him and said 1-1 was a fair result. He was shattered. I suspect he was hoping for tears, and devastation. But honestly as upset as I was - the legacy of '05 preserved a lot of my dignity that day.

For the Eagles, the pain of '05 did not go away with the joy of '06. Just as many Hawks (if they care to admit it) never felt '13 fixed '12. Many Geelong fans pine for that '08 win as well.

If we'd won in '97 it would have been exactly the same for us.

To answer your question: it's always better to win the first one, as at worst the ledger is merely squared. Just a personal view.

one in the hand is worth two in the bush. of course getting revenge feels better, and also means its a more recent flag, but I'll take a flag regardless.

i think it says alot about sports psychology. youve got to be that much better on the day because your opponent has that little bit extra incentive.

yes they're professional sportsmen, but in a game where not much seperates the top teams every little bit counts

Not to mention we had mutual respect from Eagles fans on this board it was a great rivalry hope they get their shit sorted soon and start challenging again.

I was quite happy to share 1-1 as that was a fair reflection on the contests we had :)

No you have to look at recent history. 96 lose, 05 win, 06 lose, 2012 win, 2014 lose...2015 win!!!!!!!

If we had have lost 05 I doubt I would have made it to 06 so happy with the way it is.. have to say living here in Perth was a nightmare post 06. But that was nothing compared to what we copped off the flagless dockers after last years pf.
