But don't let me stop you, would probably be better to donate to your local club or something. They'd love any injection of cash.

Of course, if you have a local club that you support and have a loyalty to, then you should donate your money there. But I support the Crows.

I don't really understand the idea of drawing a line about where your support ends. If you think your money is being wasted, that is a different thing, I suppose. But if your money brings your team more chance of success, don't you share in that?

I suppose being a student with $20 in the bank puts me in a different position than many here. I want the team to be successful but not to the point where I'm just going to give them money.

Not when the club is already loaded to the gills with cash. Don't be ridiculous.

Fine, buy a membership. But an expensive "sponsorship" of a player so you can get a couple of morsels from the club? Why don't you just go give Telstra the money. I mean, you use their phone lines, I'm sure they'd appreciate it too.

Although the money doesn't go directly to the player sponsored, the player benefits from having state of the art facilities and equipment, highly qualified persons around the club from the dietician to the physio etc etc. Every little bit of funding assists in making a successful club.

Most local clubs ask their players to find a sponsor to assist in ensuring equipment is up to date and engaging guests speakers throughout the year. These clubs would not survive without player sponsors and club sponsors.

I read this threat Saturday and wasn’t all that keen to support it because I had the idea in my head that I was already doing my little bit by being a gold member so why should I increase my financial distribution. After reading the last few post it dawned on me that we as a club and as a sport we cannot stop building and continuing to be the best we can possibly be (Sorry unintentional 2nd quote of an American president)

To paraphrase the 35th president of the United States of America John F Kennedy “and so, my fellow Adelaide Crows Fans: ask not what your club can do for you - ask what you can do for your club. My fellow citizens of Big Footy: ask not what the Adelaide Football Club will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man”.

If the AFC big Footy board decided to sponsor a player I would be very happy to contribute and add my $50 to sponsoring a player.

At the moment we are a big fish in a very small pond, as a club we are very small in comparison to some of the big time football, baseball and basketball clubs around the world (Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chicago Bulls, New York Yankees) so as a support of this football club we have to sometime go beyond expectations to continue to develop the football club.

What happened to my other post in this threat? It didn’t defame anyone or try and flame a war between any parties. Not happy Jan

Anyone who decides to post on any forum has freedom of speech, even if we don’t like what is being said at all times. Cohesion to follow a party line is sometime called communism. Has Big Footy come to stage of a communistic society?

People who dont want to get involved do not need to post in this thread, this is for people who want to get involved, and those that dont want to get involved also seem to be negetive in other aspects towards the AFC which doesnt surprise me:rolleyes:

The AFC is not a country. What a terrible comparison. When the AFC starts providing infrastructure, health and education to me for my membership money, then I'll accept your quote.

Until then they're a rich private company and I think this kind of money-grubbing is appalling.

My Telstra analogy is far more appropriate.

Its purely an idea for people here to put some money behind a player, you have choosen not to want to be a part of it, thats your choice and now allow people who do want to get behind it do that, whether the AFC is rich or poor shouldnt matter how they support the AFC.

All I hear is negetive crap come out of you day in day out, time to give it a rest.

Can we just try and stick to the argument bit ?

So I can assume that this rich privet company will not be getting your support in form of a membership next year JM? After all with 50,000 supporters why do they need your $381 surly that could go to a better charitable organization? UNICEF or WWF (World Wildlife Foundation)

Then again maybe you should just go and buy a few hundred dollars of T3 shares and give your money to Telstra.

A membership is paying to get to games, paying for entertainment. Very different to just giving money away.

How?

Sponsoring a player would get you other fringe benefits that a sliver member doesn’t get just as a gold member gets a little bit more again.

It’s simply a person preference whether you wish to spend your money in that fashion.

Yep, most probably. I haven't been getting enough value from your membership, and your suggestion has put that reality back into my mind. Excellent idea.

Not a bad idea, but as an apprentice I cannot afford such a thing, when the "benifits" are not that great.

Personally I think its a waste of money, it may help smaller, less financed clubs but for us it just isnt needed.

I am also a bit suprised that it costs so much, its not like the regular person can afford so much money a year.

I don't think its aimed at a regular person.

It aimed at businesses or well paid professionals. If a business bought any sort of sponsorship from the club, its tax dedictable for them so really they are getting something insted of giving the money to the goverment.

Yeah, well that annoys me to be honost because there should be something available for smaller business'

They shouldnt just cater for the rich, there are many people out there who would love to do something like this but they do not even have the option.

Smaller businesses can have Team Sponsorship which was $1,560 for 2006 season. Its still tax deductable for a business.
