Given he was batting Jack and opening the bowling I daresay one of the following occurred.

* The umps didn't see the captain declare (unlikely given the scores)
* He was on the shitter
* Thought he was better off using the extra minutes to warm up to bowl.

That's amazing.

I reckon the umpires got sick of watching Yorkshire stack on the runs, so any shout was rewarded and everything between point and square leg was in front of the stumps.
Here's the full list of the 8 occurrences. Interestingly, the first occurrence was in 1980. So no occurrences for over 100 years of f-c cricket, then eight in 34 years. :cool:

I must admit the (relatively) recent South Australia v Queensland occurrence got past me, I can't remember if it got mentioned here. (Hopes and Feldman got four each).
