Manhattan Rain is being floated to Melbourne this weekend
Kicking off in the Danehill next weekend

seth

Very keen to see how he shapes up this spring - smart move by Gai to completely avoid the Sydney lead ups and aim him at the Caulfield Guineas.

Isn't Black Caviar going to the Danehill also?

Yeah I believe that is where she is headed. Interesting to see and hear on 927 that a few trainers who had horses aimed at the danehill most notably Starspangledbanner have accepted in the McNeill to dodge Black Caviar.
Manhattan Rain is being targeted at the guineas and while I would expect him to run well fresh I doubt if he could beat Black Caviar.
Remember Black Caviar thrashed Carrara by about 6 lengths in it's 2nd run and he has ran some great races since including last weekend. Black Caviar will be alot fitter and wil be very short in the danehill

Hopefully Manhattan and a few other top ones do line up in the Danehill...it could be the last time for the spring we get decent odds on the Caviar.

Not sure we will see the decent odds there. I would be surprised if she was any more than 1.80 IMO. Bookies won't be taking here on.
Last time she ran at Flemington she ran over 1000m won by 5 in cruise control and won in 56.63 which was .40 quicker than Secret Flyer ran on the same day.
While I am a fan of Manhattan Rain he will be better suited over the 1400m and 1600m IMO

If Manhattan Rain beats Black Caviar up the straight first up, he's even better than what I think/expect/hope him to be.

The whispers which have been around the delay of or even non spring preparation for Metal Bender for a few weeks now seem to be getting louder and more widespread.. knowing the stable I daresay it'll be kept quiet for as long as possible, there'll be more people poking around for answers now though. Hoping, hoping, that it's BS. Suddenly makes the Chelmsford acceptances even more interesting.

Nom Du Jeu should be coming down for the Melb Cup shouldn't it?
Don't mind its chances at this early stage.

Would be, but it's up in the air at the moment. hasn't fully recovered from the Autumn injury and has been ruled out of his NZ G1 plans an isn't really pleasing the stable at the moment and is in doubt to come over here.

Interested to see how Tickets goes today at first start for new stable. Always looked as if he would make a top 3YO but no money for him at all yesterday which probably has more to do with how he is going to be ridden than how he is going as is obviously going to get buried on fence

Thoughts on Zagreb's & Dandaad's chances of making the Melbourne Cup final field?

How good was Efficient today, made up ground on the shit part of the track.

Still over $10 on TAB Sportsbet, get on quickly I say!

Terrific run yesterday, no doubt about it. Outsprinted Viewed home with little assistance.

Out of the Memsie you look at it and really just look at the big runs from the stayers.

Of course, Mic Mac, what a performance, it just keeps winning.

Whobegotyou, looked dead set out of it and was hard ridden at the turn but gee it came on.

Flew from the 400 to get second, in one of the quickest 400-0 time of the day. Just 22.26 seconds.

Zarita, El Segundo, Efficient (who made up a stack of ground on a part of the track where most horses were just plodding) all great aswell.

Viewed had a good long sustained run but seemed to really run out of legs late (last 50-100 meters) when a few flew past him. Still fought on well to hold on to 3rd.

And a favourite of mine Starspanglebanner won again, just really fights and holds on well. Big money maker for me.

Ha ha I just logged on to bump it myself.

Happy to admit I was very wrong in this instance.

Are they heading to the Guineas or is that it til the autumn?
Yeah looks as though they will...
THE dust has barely settled following Denman's devastating Golden Rose triumph but Peter Snowden already has his sight on a possible tilt at the Group One Caulfield Guineas.

The strapping son of Lonhro revived memories of his champion father with a dominant display to claim the $1 million race at Rosehill Gardens last Saturday.

And while yet to confirm whether Denman would definitely head towards the Guineas, Snowden indicated the Darley pin-up horse is likely to be given his shot against the best three-year-olds in the country at Caulfield on October 10.

"I think we will probably head that way at this stage," he said.

"We will have a round-table discussion in the next 24 hours to work out what is best for the horse. He has such a laid-back attitude and is doing everything so easy. He pulled up great this morning.

"You have got to look at races like this with a realistic view, and how valuable they can be to a horse like him, who could quite possibly be a stallion of the future.

"He is only three once and the horse is obviously in form.

"The way he settled, a mile won't be a problem.

"But if the horse tells us he has had enough, that will be it."

If Darley agree to press on with Denman it is expected he will have a short break before competing in the Group Two Stan Fox (1400m) at Randwick on September 26 before heading to Melbourne for the Guineas a fortnight later.

Denman's Golden Rose win has tightened his grip on betting for the Caulfield Guineas with TAB Fixed Odds. He has firmed from $6 to a clear $4 favourite and would be a bad result for the betting agency.

"He has been the best backed runner by far," TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie said.

"He kicked off his racing in Melbourne too which helps because punters know he will have no trouble adapting to their going."

Munsie said Denman had firmed from $51 to $18 for the Cox Plate.

Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready, a disappointing 14th in the Golden Rose, was put through extensive testing but vets failed to pinpoint any major problems with the horse.

Accordingly trainer Jason McLachlan is continuing with his Caulfield Guineas plans with the horse to leave for Melbourne tomorrow.

"I'm at a loss to explain what happened," he said.

"I had the vet look over him for about three quarters of an hour and he found nothing. We are totally mystified. He ate up well last night and there doesn't appear any reasons not to press on to Melbourne now."

Connections of Golden Rose runner-up Trusting, winner of the Warwick Stakes only seven days prior, are likely to resist the temptation of heading towards the Guineas and send the horse out for a spell.

This is the interesting part for mine, plenty here talking up his Cox Plate hopes

Very interesting runner nominated at Flemington on Saturday in the 1200m race.

All's well now - 16 starts for 6 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds including a last start 3rd in the hong kong mile behind star gallopers Floral Pegasus and Viva Macau.

The main issue with him is that last start was in Jan 07 so obviously he has had his fair share of problems but definitely an interesting runner none the less
