Partial Lockout/Vice Captain Loophole
Partial Lockout
I spoke about the Partial Lockout last week prior to the GWS v Swans game, so I'll just recap the main points, and provide a link to last week's blog at the end for further clarification. Basically, once the first ball is bounced tonight, you won't be able to make any alterations to Tigers or Blues players, as is the case currently with any Sydney or GWS players in your side. Remember though that you will still be able to trade or substitute players from the other twelve clubs on Friday. So the only thing you need to get right tonight, is which Tigers/Blues players you want in your starting team.

Vice Captain Loophole
If you didn't nominate a Vice Captain from last week's game, then you still have the two attempts at choosing a high-scoring captain up your sleeve. You can nominate a player from tonight's game as your VC, then if your happy with their score, simply play a non-playing rookie from round one on Friday, and don't have an emergency on that relevant positional line (i.e. If you're happy with Marc Murphy's VC score tonight, don't have any MID emergencies named). If the Vice Captain you've chosen registers a subpar score, then you simply name a captain from the second week of Round 1, and you'll get the usual doubled score.
There are dangers with this technique. You can never be sure that the non-playing rookie you sub in won't be a late inclusion, and on the flip side, if you pick a rookie who you know won't be playing, there's no telling when that player might get a run, so be wary.

Bryce Gibbs - $558,600 (MID)

A lot of people have been put off by the fact that Gibbs is no long a Dual Position Player (DPP). Having said that, the guy oozes class and 2012 will be his 6th year in the system. If you're looking for an undervalued, premium midfielder, Gibbs is a strong candidate. Is also known for his strong starts to seasons, having averaged over 100 over the first three games of the past two seasons.
Heath Scotland - $572,900 (DEF/MID)
2011 Ave: 105.68
NAB Form: 97 (N1), DNP (N2), 65 (N3); Average: 81
Average over first five rounds: 107.2 (2011), 105.4 (2010)
Elevated his SuperCoach game to another level last season, after averaging in the nineties for three consecutive years. Turns 32 in July this year, will that scare people off? Like Gibbs, Scotland typically starts the year off brilliantly, which makes him another great VC option.
Trent Cotchin - $545,300 (MID)

The 'it' player over the pre-season, and not just for Tigers supporters it seems. All reports suggest that Martin has had a brilliant off season, which culminated into excellent NAB Cup form. Looks set for a big year, and is currently in the top 10 'most picked players' in SuperCoach. Could do anything against a weakened Blues line-up tonight.
Jack Riewoldt - $441,600 (FWD)

After an injury plagued 2011 - where he still managed a healthy 81-point average - there were some doubting as to whether Jumpin' Jack should be considered in the league's top five power forwards. If his pre-season is anything to go by, the AFL's younger Riewoldt looks set for a big 2012. A particularly good VC choice, given Jamison's absence.
Marc Murphy - $639,900 (MID)

If there was ever a player who could guarantee you a 100+ score 99% of the time, it's Marc Murphy. Staggeringly, only had one sub-90 game last year (Round 3 vs Collingwood). Personally, his side's pre-season form doesn't concern me, because you know what you get with Murphy; a blue-chip fantasy investment who will more often than not produce the goods.

An interrupted pre-season has cast a few doubts over the champ's ability to start 2012 on a strong note. I for one share these concerns to a degree; I think we should be aiming to snare the 'Juddster' as an upgrade target after the Round 13 bye. Having said that, it's incredibly hard to deny his early season form over the past three years, where he's averaged 106, 132 & 114 over the first five rounds.
Brett Deledio - $568,700 (DEF/MID)

After twinging his hamstring/lower back during a training session, there were fears that Deledio would be underdone coming into Round 1. After given an extra week off to recover rather than play the Cats, Lids came back with a bang! Racking up 33 disposals and kicking multiple goals against GWS, where he notched up 163 SC points. The recruitment of Brandon Ellis and Steve Morris will more than likely free Deledio up for much more midfield time, which makes him a strong candidate to tear it up against the Blues.

Spud: Named on a wing in his debut match for the Tigers, I've got really high hopes for Ellis - and I don't think that's due to having my Richmond hat on as I type this. Has looked composed in the pre-season, and his job security looks solid. was recruited along with Morris to release Deledio (and even Newman) into the midfield, so I suspect he'll get 16+ games this year, barring injury.

Spud: As a Richmond fan, I love what Morris has been able to do in such a short time at Punt Rd. It looks as though he has the ability to rotate with Houli/Newman/Ellis in that effective rebounding half-back role, while he possesses lick-down capabilities, and I've no doubt he will get the job on one of Betts/Garlett/Yarran tonight. My only concern is that Batchelor - who played for Coburg over the weekend - will be looking to break back into the best 22; mostly likely at the expense of Tuck/Edwards/Morris. Personally, I'm flipping the coin between Morris and Bouman (HAW) for my D9 spot.

Prospectus: Was hurt by the arrival of Nick Duigan and Jeremy Laidler to the Carlton squad. 'He played 13 matches at VFL level across half-back, averaging 17 disposals and three rebound 50s per match.'
Spud: Whenever I hear or see Paul Bower's name, I think of his 2009 SuperCoach season, where he played 21 games and averaged 87. Fast forward to 2012, and I can't help but think he'll be one of the first to make way when Jamison and Duigan return to action. Buyer beware here; personally I woudn't recommend.
