St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

So explain it, Bassat.
The core of the issue is cost to attain talent.

For example, If Brisbane had to pay a top 5 pick for either Ashcroft,Annable this year

Sydney for Heeney Mills Campbell

GC for Walter etc

Do you think this would be an isssue? No, it wouldn’t. But their is absolute refusal from northern clubs to remove their advantage - which highlights that it isn’t about development but the substantial advantage they get for list building.

For all the wrong reasons though. I support the cause, but the only reasons the saints are complaining is because they're too crap to take advantage of the system themselves.

This is it in a nutshell.

We might be the most public but we are far from the only club.

Do you think this would be such a big issue if it was lowly “insipid rabble” St Kilda arguing the cause?

No it isn’t. Fred Basset is talking about academies. Levi Ashcroft is a father son.

So in essence he is salty about all the top end draft picks the bris academy has produced - checks notes - pick 14 Eric Hipwood. End list.

I’m sure with the AFL basically being run by two northern club ceos that this definitely won’t fall on deaf ears.

If I’m a saints member I’d be stoked that the only time my club shoots a shot is offield to complain about the Brisbane lions.
So you have not watched his speech.

Good to know 👍

The point people are trying to get across to you is that it isn’t.

Rent free like when your president talked about the reigning premiers at your own best and fairest! Will and Levi live rent free in bassats head!
Hasn’t it been proven about 100 times over different threads that you have never actually watched the entirety of this speech?

Which part of when I said I’ve watched it multiple times did you not understand you keep going with this but but but you haven’t watched it rubbish
Then you would understand it was never an attack on Brisbane but on the system.

Yet you still can’t make that distinction.

So you either haven’t watched it or you aren’t capable of understanding

Two things are true. The NGA rules are nonsense and Bassat has done a masterful job of using it as keys to jangle in front of Saints supporters to distract them from how shambolic his tenure has been.
In what way has he been shambolic?

We have made 2 finals series in his tenure.

Continued the Moorabbin redevelopment

And are fighting inadequacies across the league.

The majority of saints fans are thrilled with him

“With the AFL you get incremental change but how do we tighten up the price you pay? Our approach is that if there is someone in your academy you know you can draft and you can build them into your training program it’s a massive benefit but you get a discount. Shouldn’t you be paying more? They should pay a fair price.

“Should there be a restriction on the numbers you can draft instead of three in one draft. Or if you are top four should you access those concessions? Maybe you only get second-round concessions. We have thrown it up for discussion and we think the AFL needs to look at this all. Realistically we shouldn’t have any compromises. We should have no NGA, no northern academy. Maybe you keep the romance of the father-son but with restrictions.”

The Herald Sun reported this week that some clubs believe the open pool of talent is the most disappointing in memory given so many academy selections.

St Kilda has its own academy options this year and at some stage could draft the sons of Lenny Hayes, Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo.
But Dilena says St Kilda fears the avalanche of Queensland talent will continue to compromise the AFL draft.
“It’s just going to get worse and worse. You finish 17th and get pick two and you end up with pick eight. It’s just a massive difference if you look at the stats on how you get quality players. It is the compromises in the draft causing that imbalance.”

It is an attack on Brisbane he took time out of his day on grand final day complaining to commissioners about us getting Levi for free, so embarassing and cringe
