St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

Going back a long way with Pendles and Sidey. Truth is the list over the last 10 years other than FS and academy picks is not great.

Sam Gilbert was the same draft as Pendles was still playing VFL last year wasn't he? Not our fault you delisted him 6 seasons too early.

Rhys Stanley was the same draft as Sidey and is still going, played in 3 more wins than StKilda has this year.

Maybe the Saints are too reliant on the draft and can't wait for talent to develop and mature?

You're not though. 2 players leaving in 8 years isn't an exodus.
Let’s not forget you had to pay LDU an exorbitant amount to stay at the club. Usually, it’s opposition clubs that are forced to do that to take a player away, and the existing club usually takes unders to stay. North paid LDU overs to stay.

And McEvoy left St Kilda and eventually became the captain of Hawthorn.

Maybe he means JHFF. I can't think of anyone else... Gibbo? Schwatta? Wells? 32 year old Carey, Corey.... Who are all these players?
Has there ever been a number 1 pick who couldn’t wait to get out of a club after 1 season?? A player who is going to be an absolute champion of the game.

You really haven’t had any other decent players. But the number 1 pick and your best key defender is enough. That sort of stuff doesn’t happen at other clubs.

Who's Key Defender?

I'm not going to blame my club as that deal was done prior to him coming. Whilst it doesn't happen to all clubs, it happened to us as Fabian Francis wanted his Mini to get around Elizabeth in style.

What are you talking about?? All clubs pay the stars "exorbitant" amounts. What's Melbourne paying Pickett? Or Warner getting from Sydney?? Why am I asking you, as if you'd know the finer details of the pay

Also, LDU's contract kicks in in 2026. So he's actually on a much less $$ for this year than you might think.

Again. My point was not about north being shit. It's about how the pies also needed AFL handouts to be relevant and win games of football. You cannot deny that.

Chronology of a Troll

Interestingly the Saints sat out of the mid season draft, despite Cordy and King being out for the season.

On 28 May 2025, the Gold Coast Suns used picks 7 and 14 to seemingly troll the Saints a mere 3 days after the infamous "Nepo babies" comment made by Ross Lyon.

With pick 7 they drafted former Saint tall defender Oscar Adams (delisted by Saints).

With pick 14 they drafted 198cm forward and Moorabbin local lad Caleb Lewis (overlooked by Saints).

St Kilda really are their own worst enemy if one of these two players ends up any good.

And Melbourne with Mac Andrew.

Aren't 2 of St Kilda's best young talents NGA? Owens and Windhager?
Let's talk about Owens and Windhager

both taken in a non-restricted era of drafts, NGA kids in 2021 were unprotected until pick 20, pick 40 the following year. meaning any bid before then meant that we lost exclusive access to them, Owens was pick 33 and Windy pick 47, that's mid-2nd and mid-3rd rounds, paid for with picks 48 and 54 (Owens) and 57 (Windy), almost as much as the Pies paid for with Nick.

funny how once again this topic has become a kick St Kilda topic, rather than sticking to the subject matter.
Fincher has not been mentioned as a possible 1st round pick anywhere but this article.

They haven't even put an authors name to the article!
They list Hoffman and Cole as Saints NGA's we didn't draft for some reason??, remind where in the draft they were drafted at? are we supposed to draft them regardless? what about the 6 GCS kids that didn't get drafted, should they be held against CG in the same manner?

Essendon, Carlton, Pies, Cats all have NGA kids, yet the articles only bags St Kilda, nonetheless, the article also excludes the Northern clubs having multiple kids almost certain to be picked before Kye.

seems to me the article is just another in a series of piss poor articles by the media to discredit and belittle my club.

doesn't even mention Geelong's skulduggery in securing Steinfort and the club they take him from
He is highly rated after representing Vic Country in the recent Under-16 carnival and yet a player who could have been tied to St Kilda’s academy is officially a Geelong NGA player.
Father Carl played 65 games for the Cats then 27 for Collingwood before retiring in 2002.

His three sons are not father-son eligible but the chartered accountant married Finnish wife Tuuli when travelling abroad so Tom, Olli and Oskar are eligible for Geelong’s NGA academy because at least one parent was born overseas.
Yet Tom’s move from St Kilda’s zone with the South Melbourne Districts Football Club to Geelong Grammar has seen Geelong snap him up before he hits 16 years of age to officially tie him to their academy.
If a player never signed by St Kilda blossoms into a future star by draft age, the Cats can add him to their litany of father-son guns by matching any rival bid.
Despite him starting his footy career in a rival zone.
With a father who is a former AFL regular.
With the virtual certainty that he would have made the progression as an AFL aspirant without Geelong’s development.

They don't pay their players more than other clubs for them to stay.

A 7 year extension reportedly at OVER $1.3m a year. No, it's not much less that we think.

The rules are the rules. We play within the rules. Show me where the Pies asked for any handouts from the AFL which was not a specific, transparent rule.

On the other hand, the clubs that have been down for so long, who go begging to the AFL for assistance again and again, outside of the current governing rules, and have the added advantage of the 1st picks of a mid-season draft, have had so much more than any other clubs in the past.

So, rather than blaming the AFL, question your own club why you are still down with everything that has been given to you.

Most of those articles are rubbish. Idiot Ralph goes on about an NGA kid we have access to this year that we haven't even spoken to until the past few weeks as he is now showing some improvement. Someone from out board pointed out to him (with photos) that he has been part of the Collingwood FS/NGA Academy for 3 years. So, we know most articles are poorly researched.

I suspect the article is on St Kilda because of the noise coming from St Kilda about how everything is unfair. If this NGA prospect keeps getting better and makes a late charge into the top 10, it's a win for St Kilda. Just like if Riewoldt's boys were a little older and absolute top 2 picks in consecutive drafts, the Saints won't be complaining about the system.

Nick Daicos cost us pick 2. We traded that for a couple of 2nd round picks. You think we would have traded that pick if we didn't have nick coming through? He was going to be pick 1 or 2, so there's little benefit even for a FS. If he was projected to go at 10, then there's a chance you can get 2 top 10 picks by keeping your 1st.

Josh Daicos was pick 57. Basically, no one wanted him. But, the Pies have been favoured because of father sons, who, I might add, are available to you and North. There are plenty of other father sons we have picked up who weren't very good.

Well we gotta pay someone....

If we got kissed on the dick as much as Collingwood, I wouldn't blame the AFL.

What was your club's excuse prior to free agency, FS and NGA?
100 years with 1 premiership and plenty of wooden spoons.

The simple fact is that it's easy for St Kilda to cling on to excuses as to why they are an unsuccessful club.
It's always been a poor club and it always will be.

Let's be real though.

We don't win 2010 without key performances by two priority picks...

OK let's be real.

The 2010 GF replay doesn't count, we were cooked by then after Collingwood had played about 10 games in a row at the MCG.

Ball was terrible in the real 2010 GF along with Swan and Pendles, your best midfielder was Daisy but he wasn't as good as Lenny.

Sorry Plugger, but that's some premium copium you're huffing there m7.

3:2 flags in the big league?

We're close to #3 than you are to #4..

And you travel less and always will due to being a big club (in Australia), not actually a big football club.

In real terms, you're just a different shade of peasant.

It's always been a poor club and it always will be.
And Collingwood will always be treated with advantagious fixturing and little travel.

Which is a big reason they attract so many free agents and trades. Favourable fixturing and little travel.

You come across as an arrogant Pies supporter. Nothing more.
