St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

Havnt looked TBH. That came from AI

Oh, okay - AI for whatever reason is extremely bad at that stuff. I assure you the numbers will be way off reality. So it’s actually more like 0 QLD’ers drafted in 2010, VS 5 in 2023 (not 3 V 3).

I asked it to list all Brisbane academy players and it missed Hipwood and Payne, among others. It also incorrectly listed Henry Smith - so it truly has NFI.

Will post this in a few threads but think its relevant here

Has anyone actually done the research on the Northern Academies in anyway at any level. We keep hearing of its necessity, its success yet it never translates into anything. If you do the actual research you will see the draftee numbers from these states is getting considerably worse

From the 2010 draft we had 5 NSW players, 1 ACT player, 1 NT and 3 QLD players. All in the normal listed way ie. No CAT B rookies. Then we had in 2024 we had 6 NSW Players (1 a CAT B rookie from US got counted), 4 from QLD (1 Cat rookie) and 1 NT player (Cat B rookie) .

In 2024 AFL was pretty happy and boasted about this number. For some reason the AFL doesnt actually report each years state by state numbers all the time. A huge gap from 2020 to 2023 exists when it just stopped. Could not get AI to find a answer anywhere so had to manually do the count.

In 2020 we had 3 from NSW and 1 from QLD in the main draft + 1 Cat B rookie
In 2021 we had 0 from NSW and 1 from QLD in the main draft + 1 Cat B rookie
In 2022 we had 0 from NSW and 1 from QLD in the main draft (Jaspa Fletcher) + 4 Cat B Rookies
In 2023 we had 1 from NSW and 3 from QLD

AFL Sydney is probably the biggest failure of all. From what I can gather its received around 120 mil in funding from Federal/State/AFL and produced 1 solitary player in Caiden Cleary (this could be wrong but hard to find otherwise).

Not only has it failed to meet its aim it looks to have actively made the situation worse. We are getting less talent from the Eastern state academies then ever before.... Id like to see someone report on this but well they wont. The truth is inconvenient here
maybe dont read AI absolute potato

you cant be serious....so you've mounted an argument based around AI google search intead of actually looking at that draft year, and going on about how there's no return when it actual fact there has been and there needs to be more

The 2020 stuff I did manually…. That’s all reality I’m afraid as is the financial data

Again, the argument that because one disagrees with a rule or a law they shouldn't behave like those rules or laws are in place is ridiculous.

As has been said many times by others on here, the father-son rule is not going anywhere (it should be abolished).

So St Kilda is starting an institution to make the most of the rules that are currently in place? What loser mentality.

Isn't the takeaway that it is very bizarre that it took St Kilda this long to create one? Most other clubs (GC, GWS excepted) have had some sort of F/S structure in place for a decade.

It could certainly be a takeaway. Stopping the punditry and their fellow travellers from criticising St Kilda for anything is like trying to stop the ocean from touching the sand.

BTW, why would GC and GWS have a father-son structure? Both those clubs are probably a decade away from having their first eligible potential player.

I forgot to write (GC, GWS excepted).

Dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.

But it is funny seeing just how offended some clubs supporters are.

Why isn’t Fred taking a principled approach and refusing to cultivate FS talent?

Alternatively, why doesn’t Fred STFU and get on with it. That seems to be what St Kilda are doing now that the AFL has privately told them to STFU.

Successful clubs generally plan and implement. Rather than complain, get told to get away, plan and then implement.

I don't know anyone in any role at St Kilda named Fred.

And using AFL funds to do it, I presume, which is something that your fellow fans have moaned about the AFL doing. When it comes to finances, St Kilda is just as big a welfare recipient as we are.

It's also funny seeing just how offended your President is.
Kek, considering who much whinging and bitching northern clubs and some supporters on this site do whenever he does anything.

He just has to breathe and suddenly people will be anti oxygen

Whinging and bitching like you are right now?

No, we just guffaw at his rank hypocrisy and attempts to distract from what a poorly run basket case your club are.

Considering how the AFL's fixture, focussing on maximising attendance to increase revenue, helps fund all clubs, I don't have any criticisms of distribution of revenue. It's good to see Gold Coast playing this Friday night, but doing it the same amount for all clubs doesn't maximise revenue, which when distributed, helps all clubs and therefore provides a benefit to the game at large.

I haven't moaned about how academies are funded, and am not responsible for anyone else's comments.
