St Kilda game - payback time?

They have given us a fair share of hidings over the last few years, both on the scoreboard, and in general play. At times their midfield was so far superior, we could hardly get our hands on it.

Now one senses that's about to change. I've been waiting for the time when top 4 clubs from the last few years start to fall off the pace. Dogs and Aints have.

Hope the players take the opportunity to beat them, and beat them well. Beat them inside, beat them with our outside run and spread, take plenty of marks on their ordinary key defenders, and stop Riewoldt and Milne, both of whom had numerous day outs against us.

Footy is a game of cycles, and it's our time to start dishing out some payback.

Good luck mate. Although may I have a say in something? Yes the Kangaroos have hit some form. However, their opponents over the past 4 haven't been all that flash. Gold Coast? Come on. Port? Seriously man... Essendon? Wouldn't even beat the Gold Coast atm. And who else? Adelaide? Gee they played well against the Cats yesterday...
But anyway, good luck again. It's a big game for both clubs.

I alluded to this in a different thread - I agree 100% . We need to stand up and really give it back to the sides who have bullied us and pushed us around for too long. It starts this week.

Geez! That abit steep saying that.. I rate Saints as best backline in the league bud. And i highly doubt we would give them a thrashing, if anything maybe 1-2 goals. Still a very dangerous team.

Collingwood supporters will say the same thing if we beat the Saints this week. Carlton was talked up as a contender, you want to check the teams they have beaten, not that much better quality.

Yes, well, according to some in the media, and many BF experts, any team that North beats, by definition, is no good...............yet many of them are happy to talk up the Dees, who North continue to beat, as the Next Big Thing. Essendon were talked up as the year's biggest improvers, til we beat them.

If we beat the Saints, the talk will be 'gee the Saints have fallen away', rather than 'North have stepped up'. Probably won't change til if/when we beat the Cats or Pies.

Meh.

That's it in a nutshell.

Mate its not just the opposition, its the way our team, played as a team. Its brilliant to see it all coming together.

Good scrap is the best they can do these days. Wouldn't call it dangerous, more determined and Sydney like. They can beat us, no doubt about it, but it's up to us now in many ways. We no longer have to go to these types of games praying for some of their players to have a shocker.

As for their backline being the best in the league, I am not sure about that. They've been ultra consistent as a unit, but that was largely due to some major midfield dominance, and the overall game plan, rather than the backline itself. Zac Dawson? Gwilt?

Well yeah i agree that we are not as prone to getting a thrashing like we have for the past 2 years, i actualy feel confident about going into this game that we can give them a good run now that our kids are abit stronger.

Maybe not Dawson, but still Goddard, Fisher, Gwilt, Gram, Gilbert. Now thats pretty destructive

Beat Adelaide by 47, Gold Coast by 59 Ess by 21 (after the hit the lead 12 mins into the last 1/4) and Port by 45...agreed ordinary teams but these we are impressive margins...you guys are on the "slide" so we wont get any respect if we get up on sunday...guess the only way to get respect is to beat the pies or cats

Translation: I'm just saying good luck because I want to look like a decent person, but what I'm actually doing is reminding North Melbourne fans who they have beaten, and in actual fact aren't as good as they think.

Summat like that.

we never beat the saints this week will be no different

Round 21 2009 says hello

Height of saints footy and we walked away with the 4 points.

Dish was massive that game and it was the last time he played against them.

Will be a good contest which is winnable if we don't get ahead of ourselves, and stick what we are building on.

I think even some roo supporters underestimate what we are actually building.

Our recent wins against North have been on the back of some stars amazing individual performances, Nick has kicked 7 the last two times.

Interested to note that Petrie is second in the comp at the moment as an inside 50 target, second only to Jack Riewoldt. Saints have eased off (largely due to form) their reliance on Nick, wonder if whichever team is too predictable will tell the story?

Saints would be silly not to put some time into Swallow and Wells, both in ripping form lately.

I don't think it's any coincidence that the Saints have eased off winning either.

We will not be as susceptable to the "StKilda squeeze" this time around.

Forget Reiwoldt, your mob needs to work out how to curb Goldstein shoving it down the throat of our midfielders 40 times a game.

This is a very winnable game. The Saints still have plenty of guns, but they aren't all firing atm. Also, the Pix of Nix Dix scandal has clearly had an adverse effect on them and it looks like their Runners Up Window is closing a bit quicker than many predicted.

Petrie has been a target more for structural reasons, than to kick a bag himself. He hasn't kicked that many goals - his value is to contest, attract numbers from the opposition and to allow others to create more space. As for tags, we have more than one or two mids that make a difference this season.

Actually, less reliance on Roo, has coincided with being competitive again.

Goldstein is in great form, I still think Ben will fly solo though, given Blake, Stanley, Kosi, Gardiner are unavailable.

The emphasis will be on matchups, I don't think Wells for example, will be given the freedom he has had in recent weeks.

Pedo/Edwards MUST have good games on the weekend.

You can bet your house on Ross Lyon and the St Kilda backline, with guys like Fisher, Gwilt and Goddard coming in over the top as 2nd and 3rd players into Petrie, all game on Sunday.

It should give Pedersen and Edwards alot more space than what they might be used to, the midfield has to be atuned to it, and not be too Petrie-centric.

The tables have turned slightly in terms of in-form name players.

Wells, Goldstein, Swallow and Petrie are all in line for selection in the AA squad at the end of the year, Boomer's season is increadibly underrated, he's averaging 23 touches and kicked 21 goals in half a season, he could kick 40+ for the year, which would be a massive effort.

We look 100 x more dangerous with Ziebell, Bastinac, Greenwood, Pedersen, Thompson etc in form, supporting the other mentioned players, we have genuine depth, especially through the midfield.
