IMO he wIll not become the elite mid we were screaming for in that draft - Bontepelli and De Goey are and will remain far more damaging midfielders from that draft.

I reckon we need to "inject" some mature class into our midfield over the off season.

Similar to what hawthorn did with Burgoyne all those years ago would speed up our development as we are constant ball butcher's in the fwd half.

Steve Johmson was always a great goal kicker, it was his work rate and off field life that held him back. Johnson also always had a bit of mongrel in him, if Billings wasnt playing football he would be a Tibetan Monk!

Its not pidgeon holing him when they recruited him they said he would develop into an elite midfielder. Trout must have been eating too many willy wonkers bars leading up to that draft.

The other thing you need to make it as a midfielder is an elite aerobic capacity, I just dont see him getting to those levels, he just doesnt look that driven.

Gresham is not getting as much of the ball but he is already a better contested ball winner than Billings.

Billings was brilliant v Collingwood and the Hawkes. If he could sit up forward when he's resting and get decent forward entries he'd kick a bag regularly. His field kicking is elite.

Ross and Membrey have been really big positives this season.

Hickey too

Agreed Ross was very good tonight. Our midfield always look better when they move with the ball to create space rather than just handballing the pressure to the next person down the line.

Membrey is starting to clunk his marks, jsut needs to ice all his set shots in front.

Hickey's follow up work at ground level is what separates him from others.

This is a forum and everyone is entitled to there opinion.
In fact I've heard the same things from non saints supporters knocking billings' Ferocity at the ball.

The good thing for us is we don't need him to be a brute insider" we need him on the outside using his polish.
