first off we still would of lost but did anyone else notice the amount of times our players were getting tackled just before they got the ball and kept getting dragged down after a mark ???? it seemed like an obvious tactic especially the dragging our players down after the mark.

ferocious tackling, running in groups, flooding the oppositions defence, sharp shooting for goal, strong leads.... they did a lot of things right. we didn't do any of them.

but yeah... anticipating when to tackle... they did it beautifully

This thread is just begging for Saints supporters to come in and paint us all with the same brush as sniveling, complaining sooks.

Get over it, they beat us. Thrashed us. They played well, we played horribly. Their pressure around the contests was immense, and we couldn't replicate it.

It's been a trend for a while now.
I first noticed it early in the season. Umpires are letting players tackle someone who is about to take possession before he actually takes possession. Been going on the whole season.
I'm waiting for someone to not take possession and throw his hands out to show he is not in possession (a la Kevin Bartlett years ago). If this trend creeps in, it will be a reversion to the bad old days.
Just needs to the umps to do their job and not allow the early tackle.

Another one that is becoming more and more prevalent is the defender pushing his opponent under the ball with his body in a marking contest. He pretends to be trying to spoil, and is really just pushing his opponent forward under the ball. The tell tale sign is when both players miss the ball completely and it goes over the back untouched. Not too often that both players misjudge the flight of the ball that badly. Usually means the defender has pushed the forward forward.

btw not having a sook just think its something that we will have to figure out how to stop or counter or will need a plan B because it obviously works against us

Yup.

Why weren't we doing it?

Well, we did a few times and got pinged, but still, if you hold yourself to the same standard as the opposition the truth will out eventually.
