Stafford Vs Ottens

I find it amazing that everyone here seems to think that Ottens is the natural choice over Stafford for the ruck.

This appears to come from the fact that Stafford kicked some goals toward the end of last season whilst up forward. But if you are an ex ruckman like me (not to any high level - just loved the role) you will have noticed that Staffords palming of the ball and authority in the middle is the best in the club.

Ottens's second effortd are great but they usually are needed after he does not use the ball properly when he gets his hand on it at the bounce.

Otto and Richo up forward for me any day - Leave Stafford as number one ruck.

I'd think Ottens would be better than Stafford in any position

I reckon they'll both do 50/50, however if I had to pick one to stick in the middle when say the game is there to be won and the heat is on I would probably go with Stafford, purely because he has a bit more mongrel in him. Need to get Ottens a mirror and explain to him exactly how big he is. If someones running backwards to fill a hole that he's leading into he's got to learn to flatten them (Eyes on the ball of course).

Looking forward to a fit Ottens and Stafford in the ruck next year with support from Ray Hall.

I thought we were at our most dangerous when we had Otto, Staff AND Richo in the forward 50. That's why Ray Hall is so important ... as will the retirn of Dutchy.

we are laughing all the way to the bank with stafford really.despite the daffy contract situation we clearly have come out the winners here.

i agree stafford is more of a natural ruckman than otto but both have their good points.

in fact no matter where they both play we dont lose much either way.

Ottens is very much overated as a ruckman. Stafford is a far more acomplished ruckman. If Stafford is fit enough as has the endurance, he should be rucked for nearly all of the game, then our midfielders, Coghlan, Johnson, Campbell, Blumfield (sounds good doesn't it) can kick it to Ottens (and Richo).
