It really frustrates me how they've basically hid the sequel trilogy away because of the backlash, rather than tried to rehabilitate it. Its like everyone has collectively forgotten that the louder community hated the prequels but there was a quiet bunch of fans who lived it or free to love it due to all of the stuff outside of the movies.

I reckon this would've been almost a free hit. If it worked, then boom, you've proven there is stuff in the sequels worth mining. If it failed then you're in the same position you are now. It's not like Disney or Lucasfilm have proven anything else is successful.

Haven't been following any general Star Wars news of late, so missed a few happenings. Apparently Starfighter has finished filming, gives them plenty of time for effects and reshoots. Daisy Ridley was in the news a couple of days ago saying New Jedi Order has a great script and is going ahead, albeit without the pressure of a specific release date. And apparently Rogue Squadron may be retooled as a TV series and Lucasfilm is allegedly working on a horror themed TV show.

Yeah I've completely tuned out. I am currently reading The Glass Abyss though, a Mace Windu novel that reads very much like a Dune sort of hard sci Fi, very different from most Disney books. Bit of a hard slog with how dense it is but enjoyable in its own way.

Haha, I’m reading that too and it’s taking forever as well. Too much time waxing lyrical about the surroundings, the customs etc. Doesn’t really feel like a Star Wars book.

Weirdly I like it for that reason but yes very slow going.

Have you read Mask of Fear? Really enjoyed that.

It is. Most if not all of Filoni's content has been panned. Or did you like Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka?

I did not like Book of Boba Fett, Asoka wasnt that bad (although I do note I binged it and bet that some of the frustration came out of those watching it weekly).

But, the Kennedy role comprises a variety of factors, not just creative. Hopefully someone who is actually interested in Star Wars, will utilise that role to return Star Wars to core principles and move away from DEI slop.

He would just be creative. Someone else will do the non creative.

Filoni is quite supportive of DEI so you're out of luck anyway. Star Wars has always been pro diversity.

Anyways, Filoni is interesting, some people love his animated stuff, I haven't been able to get into it so am not panning it, but I haven't liked much of his live action stuff. All that aside, he's obviously a big Star Wars nerd and that's generally a good thing but Star Wars is at its best when it's at its most accessible. Especially on the big screen. And I don't think he's capable of that. You need someone with real film experience and the ability to distance themselves from the deep lore.

Mask of Fear feels like an episode of Andor in book form in the best sense. Really great read.

I think Disney are leaving money on the table by not turning some, key word some, of their EU books into movie series. If I were near their board I would have them spin off a new production company that appears independent, then have Disney sell the EU rights to that production company, marketing from new production company about how they are making films based off the books, Disney say they are happy to have the content out there but the fans will decide what "real" star wars is.

Then you play both sides. They just need bums on seats watching content and plenty have already made up their mind on the ability of most of Disney's people to create star wars they like.

Disney keep making movies and TV, new production company starts making movies and TV recasting the original trilogy characters and hopefully both tell good stories.

Filoni is taking inspiration and characters from that triogy, but not making those movies - as he has done elsewhere in the creation of content.

He's continuing his story from Rebels where Thrawn was swept off by magic space whales.

Fair enough, Star Wars has some weird stuff
